This amounts to abortion elimination and more unwanted babies.

If what they are proposing won't hold up in federal court then stop. Why waste money in court on a losing case in these tough economic times.

It seems the republicans are pushing their conservative christian views on everyone in the state of Ohio.

Forget about this, lawmakers, pass SB5 NOW!

The SCOTUS will overturn this if the idiots in the statehouse try to ram it through. Funny how they care about the unborn, but once a baby is out, they are on their own. I guess that is the "compassionate conservative" in them.

Hmmm...So they'll scream about money issue when it comes to healthcare or pensions for people, yet wasting taxpayers money and time on something like this bill is totally acceptable. The conservatives seem to care an awful lot about zygotes, but once someone is born, screw them.

Im sorry but I hope this bill passes! More babies deserve a chance and there are plenty of couples who are unable to have children naturally that want to be parents. It is a Womans right to chose BUT a babies life starts a conception not at birth. If you dont want to parent or are incapable of parenting then place your child in a open adoption. An adoption that has NO secrets that the child will grow up knowing all of its family including birth family.
Abortion is being used as a form of Birth Control not just as a last resort for other reasons. I understand that it is a womans right to choose but did I choose to not be able to carry a child NO. So why should I be able to choose if my baby lives till birth or not? PASS the bill!

Abortions should be able to be outlawed once we are able to gestate a baby to full term outside the mother's body. Until then, it is the mother's choice.

There are THOUSANDS of children up for adoption in the United States. There are more children available for adoption than there are parents to adopt them.
This is definitely the mother's choice and the government has no right to intrude on her bodily processes.
I understand your point of view, I just disagree with it. The bill should not be passed, and should not have been brought up when there are so many other matters that the government SHOULD be tending to. Like paying down Ohio's debts and restructuring and fixing our public school system.
I do agree that abortion should not be used as a form of birth control; in that regard it is irresponsible. But the fact remains that if the mother wants to have an abortion, she should be able to.
I am sorry that you are unable to carry your own child, but that does not give you the right to campaign against the rights of other women.

What happend to all the really pressing issues that the Republicons campaigned on?

What about jobs? Gun violence? Drugs, drugs, and more drugs and the residual crime from it? Skyrocketing healthcare cost? Deficit spending?

No one is saying that life begins when fetal hearttones are detected. Every educated person knows that each human life has a very precise beginning, and that is fertilization. Every biology major is aware that much has to happen before the fetal heart is ready to beat. But, think ... what is taking place between fertilization and the first pulse of the fetal heart? Growth. And organic growth only happens where there is life - trees, grass, flowers, animals. The growth that takes place after a human being is conceived is...the growth of a human being! And many human beings strongly believe that all human beings, from the moment of their conceptions until their deaths of natural causes, should be legally protected from other human beings who may possibly want to kill them, especially when they are vulnerable in some way, such as residing in their mothers' wombs, on life support, and phsically or mentally sub-standard. Since heartbeat detection is something done to determine whether or not a human being is alive, it can logically be applied to both the beginning and the end of a human being's life-timeline. It's not rocket science. It's human biology.

The Christian right is an evil and scary lot, that seeks to control the lives of others. Hopefully, the courts will uphold the Constitution and overturn this legislation.

A request to the Christian right: Intelligent and good people don't try to impose their choices on you. Please don't impose your choices on us.

Oh my! after reading all these other comments...I am scared.

Why stop at six weeks? I say make it illegal for men to masterbate (prevented the sperm from becoming part of a baby) and women from completing menstrual cycles (prevented that egg from becoming the other part of a baby).

Rapists should be rewarded for helping bring new life into the world.

Aahh....Christian bliss. If you only new how much God dislikes your behavior.

I have to agree with Zeb. I am the very proud mother of 3, we adopted from the U.S. foster care system. There are so, so many kids "waiting4anangel" that I just can't sympathize with you. If your heart truly desired to be a "parent", you would jump at the chance to adopt one of these precious children. Yes, most of them are school aged, have been neglected & abused, tossed from home to home, and are "special needs" because they are the wrong age, the wrong color, the wrong sex or part of a sibling group longing to stay together and be apart of a family where they dream of someday calling someone mom & dad and where the mom & dad actually love them unconditionally. These kids are labelled with ADD, ADHD, FAS, RAD, MRDD, and the list goes on and on. These are the kids that weren't aborted!!! The kids you don't want aborted!!! They are waiting on you!!! Where are you?? Oh, that's right, waiting on that perfect little blue eyed, blonde blundle of joy to be delivered safely to your loving arms straight from another woman's womb. I tell my three God knew we would be their family, they just had to take a little detour and hit some bumps along the way, but they finally got here and we couldn't be happier!

You can blame society for all these unwanted babies. Society thinks it is ok to have sex any time anywhere with anyone. Respect Life from the womb to the tomb. Just because these babies were concieved under un moral actions as society is now days does not make the baby less a human being and should have the right to life.
