I think it's too far gone for long term (100+ years) unity at this point. An amicable divorce is the best solution, IMO.<quoted text>
It is the new normal for no one to be held accountable, in public office or private business. In private commerce, if anyone is called down for a mistake that costs others, it's immediately bigotry or racism. Seems like everyone falls into some protective minority status other than white males.
And the division it has brought about is staggering and dangerous.
George, I truly think it will take a catastrophic event to bring this country together and wake it up. I'm almost to the point of thinking it would be better to set some states off as liberal, the conservatives take the others and operate independently.
In 2002, if somebody had told you that six years in the future, a man named Barack Hussein Obama would be elected president, a mosque would be under construction two blocks from Ground Zero and that location would still be nothing more than a hole in the ground, you would have called the men in the white coats.
Nothing less than a full scale foreign invasion of this country could ever unify us. And even then, I wouldn't bet my life on it.
