A campaign clip. Yep, you have both feet grounded approaching this issue.

So far you seem to think there are only two approaches to the debt problem. It's a multi-faceted issue, probably too complex for you.

Hey, take this approach to your household budget, at the beginning of the month whizz away 20% of the amount of your budget. Continue doing this for 2 years, then starting with the 3rd year whizz away 35% of it.

Let me know how it works out keeping up with the bills.

(Yes I know that the EITC isn't a direct Keynesian idea)

At 40K, you are getting EITC,
Not unless you have qualifying children. MSingle with no children the threshold is 13k or so, and married filing jointly with no children the threshold is 5k higher.
which means you aren't really paying taxes. Not to mention that a family of four at 40K, is Medicaid eligible.
Should they get a "Super EBT" card that exempts them from sales tax?
It already does in Ohio. When a SNAP recipient buys soft drinks, the tax is removed from the total at the register.

You think there's anger and division today? You'd have people making $50k taking home less than those making $39,999. Try your idea and watch society come apart for good.
That's happening already with entitlements... some people get more in entitlements than some who don't qualify for them make. It's why I think entitlements should be counted as income for the purpose of qualifying for other entitlements. The way it is now, someone who makes $14,000 a year and pays part of his own health insurance doesn't qualify for housing subsidies, but someone who makes $10,000 a year and $4,000 in food stamps and gets medicaid does.

Well, you haven't demonstrated a proficiency in math, you believe less revenue will fix the problem of massive debt and deficit, it would be a waste of my time. I'm pretty generous but for me to take you seriously on this, I'd have to charge you and my rates are pretty steep.
LMAO..no point to make eh?
Actually I am very proficient in math and use it daily when engineering projects.

There you go again however, telling me what I believe which apparently is becoming a habit with you.

Let me assure you, you are incorrect in your assumptions. What we disagree about is how to generate "real" revenue......

If you think that business owners are not going to pass tax increases right on down to the middle class and the poor, well then you are not even slightly aware of how the economic engine works.

That sounds all well and good, except one of two things or a combination of both with need to happen. Either the revenue would need re-sourced, matching cuts in spending would need implemented or a mixture of both.

Of course, it's not like consumers aren't paying the corporate taxes anyway... it's included in the price of the companies' goods and services, so that part's break even in theory. The savings would come by companies not having to spend money complying with the tax codes (which is also included in the price of the companies' goods and services). That accounts for almost $600 billion a year by itself. That's almost $1,900 for every man, woman, and child in the country. Minus the about $600 per person average in extra taxes that would have to be collected still leaves an average $1,300 increase in purchasing power per person. And those people spending that money will create more employment, and thus more revenue.

[QUOTE]Due to unfunded mandates, the deficits and the debt, revenue needs raised. There's no getting around it. I personally like the notion that we have a kickass military and it needs funded. We can argue all day about what needs cut but it's all small potatoes compared to the true debt of the nation. We can't cut our way out of it.
I agree. And I think the best source of revenue is a strong middle class, and the way to make it strong is by allowing those who have the ability to do so to create more and better opportunities.

I think large deficits (anything larger than that caused by an error in estimated revenue) should be illegal except in the case of a bona-fide national emergency.

People on SNAP should not be able to buy soda, chips, or any junk food.

Canned goods, frozen veggies, fresh fruit and veggies, some juices, bread, milk, pasta, rice, cheese, etc.

Those should be what SNAP pays for.

My blood pressure goes up a few points when I see a lard ass white trash woman walk into a convenience store, buys several bags of chips, beef jerky, some candy bars, and a few mountain dews. Then she whips out some cash and buys some cigs.

Hmmm then we as the tax payers get to pay for her future diabetes medications and cancer treatments. Awesome.

Wants vs needs. Society has mistaken one for the other and now feels entitled to both.

What I favor will only power the gov't for 8 days huh? Then how did budget surplus as Clinton left office went to massive deficit in a matter of years and continues to this day is driven mainly by the Bush tax cuts and the war spending.

Take the trillion or so dollars a year and find a way to get them paid for plus a way to make up their killing of the budget and debt servicing and you might get somewhere with me.

You get all up in the air that I make assumptions about you but your own posts back me up 100%. You're more predictable than you think.

Happy New Year.....

Clinton and the "Dot Com Bubble"....look it up K....

Where are you planing to get the trillion or so dollars a year from? LOL.... That is a sweet number but not even slightly close to the revenue that will be generated by letting the Bush tax cuts expire.......Heck, you could tax millionaires at 100% and still would be wayyyyyy short of your "trillion"......

Gotta go have some fun,,,,,see a later........

The debt (the sum of deficits, plus interest, minus payments) went up every year Clinton was in office, meaning that there had to have been some pretty creative bookkeeping (the kind that would be illegal if a citizen or business did it) to create the appearance of a surplus.

enjoy the special times today with the kids.

I am skiing with the kids; and taking a break to drink some water.

At this point I am the only one to not have crashed.

Guess I am next up on the splat fest.

Happy New Year.

Hope you all made it off the mountain safely. Years ago I took my kids skiing in Vermont almost every Christmas break. Then they had kids and grew up. Now we have an annual camp out and the grandkids love it.
