WASHINGTON, D.C.— A Channel 2 Action News investigation found that the State Department is sending millions of dollars to save mosques overseas. This investment has received criticism as the United States makes an effort to slash nearly $4 trillion in government spending.Plenty of outrage following the announcement made Thursday afternoon by a government commission that suggested huge cuts to the budget, including eliminating the interest education for home mortgage. This juxtaposed with the United States investing millions to refurbish mosques as a good-will effort in Muslim countries has upset many taxpayer groups.

“I think it is very hard to explain to the American taxpayer right now whose having an extraordinary time paying bills and making ends meet that this is why we took this out of your paycheck, so we can fund this,” said Thomas.

The State Department declined a Channel 2 Action News request for an interview. We wanted to ask why are we using tax dollars to refurbish religious buildings overseas. The State Department did send Channel Two Action News an e-mail saying that they are fighting Islamic extremism by building relationships with Islamic leaders.

“We are rebuilding mosques to support the radicals, not to support the moderates. We are building mosques to issue fatwas of death against people like me,” said Darwish.

You will one day regret accepting Muslims in this country with open arms.

Too bad your too blind or ignorant to realize that they 'are' your enemy too.

OK--here's what I see. First off, Pat Dollard is a rabid anti-Islamist with a near total disregard for facts. That is a rumor circulator.

Dollard is quoting Channel 2 Action News. No city or network cited. For all we know this is Channel 2 of some community college student broadcast in Podunk IA. Also cited, someone who is a "taxpayer advocate," and then there is Nonie Darwish--one of a small cadre of "converts" from Islam who make their living selling their stories, in the form of public appearances, to folks all too willing to believe.

Oh, and an unknown "government commission" who made recommendations on Thursday (which Thursday? this week or two years ago).

See--this is how you start to recognize propaganda. Now--is Obama spending a lot of money to rebuild destroyed mosques?

I would suggest we need more information.

You've gotta be kidding me, Taliban my foot. You guys are crazy! lol!

Take a Birth Certificate, Utility Bill,or Rent or Mortgage receipt and Social security card to DMV and get a State Picture ID.

That's all it takes. Proof of self, proof of residence. Problems solved.

Yeah, maybe in Mississippi. In Ohio that won't get it. Utility bill, rent or mortgage receipt are not on the list. Nor is picture ID from an employer. I had a purse stolen some years ago. While I don't generally carry SS or BC with me, I had just gone to Canada and carried them as I didn't have an up to date passport.

I was fortunate to have some court documents that got me through BMV. Otherwise it takes weeks to rebuild identity (including opening new checking accounts--which takes picture ID and proof of SS#), including visits to multiple agencies (state--or county-- maintains birth records, feds SS), and if one does not live in their state of birth. Oh, and expect to pay fees at every point along the way.

So now you're trying to say that most people have 'lost' their documents, can't get a picture ID, and are just unable to prove their true identity? Just another excuse not to have ID when you vote.

You shouldn't carry your stock of ID documents, Birth certificate, ss card and all of your ID's around with you all of the time, or you deserve to lose them. They should be kept at home in a fire proof safe until needed.

No--if you were able to read what I wrote, I was disagreeing with your list of documents as being sufficient to get a state ID in Ohio.

And further, I pointed out that in fact I do not routinely carry all my IDs around with me. They do live in a lock box until needed, however, in my case, they were needed and that is why they were with me.

However, many people lack various documents for a wide variety of reasons--people who are economically unstable and lose housing may lose documents in the process. Women who flee abusive relationships are often lucky to get away with their lives, let alone documentation of birth and so forth. Some experience fires or disasters. Some record-keeping agencies experience fires or disasters. Some young people have irresponsible parents who lose documents.

Having worked, over time, with a lot of people who needed assistance in getting documents for a variety of reasons, I can assure you that not everyone has a lock box at home full of ID. Nor is it an easy task to to rebuild.

It has been documented that mosques are used as meeting places for terrorists, especially in Columbus, Ohio.

Nuradin Abdi was convicted in 2007 of planning to blow up an Ohio shopping mall.

Iyman Faris was convicted in 2003 of planning to blow up the Brooklyn Bridge.

Christopher Paul was convicted in 2008 of conspiring to use explosives against targets in the U.S. and Europe.

All three terrorists worshiped and socialized at a small mosque in Columbus, Ohio, and, according to David B. Smith, an attorney for Faris, were part of a larger group of jihadists and extremists who frequented the mosque.

The FBI now is investigating reports of links to that same mosque by Muslim-convert Abdulhakim Muhammad

Building mosques is step one in the spread of world-wide sharia and ultimately global jihad.

Post the story. Take a beat down. Wait, repost, repeat.

If the terrorists all drank at the same bar, or went to the same bowling alley, or routinely got together at the same McDonals, that would hardly justify burning down bars, bowling alleys or fast food restaurants in general.

And the headline story--about financing the rebuilding of mosques (raises a question--why do they need to be rebuilt) globally--still languishes without any factual support.

You want to impose your "religion" on the rest of us.

"Enforced morality" is how I believe you put it. And of course that would be your morality, you don't give a damn about what anyone else thinks.

Most of our laws are based on morality anyway and are in the best interest of all of society. Think about it.

Here are a few examples.

You steal, thats against the law.

You murder, thats against the law.

You lie in court or to a federal agent, thats against the law.

You speed, thats against the law.

Very interesting. I remember hearing about some of those plans on the news, just didn't realize they were in your city. Crazy, huh? How large is the Muslim population there and how many mosques are there now?

I don't know the actual count, but I can think of several mosques that I know of--none of which are included in any accusations of terrorist involvement. Several mosques have a long history here. Some of the newer ones are very non-descript on the outside with very little in the way of signage. Folks worry about vandalism and so forth. The mosque closest to my house experienced a break-in and good bit of damage immediately following 9-11.
