I know you're too eager to defending Reid -- that shameless, opportunitistic moron -- to actually read the referenced article.
I'm not defending Reid. I'm questioning the accuracy of the headline of the thread. I thought you started this thread. Didn't you?

You've never answered it. You have equivocated all around it. You don't have the honesty or intellectual integrity to answer the question directly.

Didn't a poster start this thread? Why do you think woman is an insult? Does your wife appreciate it when you insult people by calling them a woman?

You think it's insulting to call someone a "little girl?" Why do you hate females so much?

You are equivocating so you can claim you took both sides of the issue later on. Typical bullshit.

Look at how defensive he is about gay pedophile priests. It is clear where his loyalties lie.

Harry Reid Implies Sequester Caused Explosion That Killed 7 Marines In Nevada
via RCP
On the Senate floor this morning, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) implied the explosion that killed seven Marines at an ammunitions depot in Hawthorne, Nevada was due to the "cutting back in training and maintenance" in the sequester.
HARRY REID: As I indicated, it was quite a big explosion. We'll follow this news very closely. I will do whatever I can going forward to support the United States military and the families of the fallen Marines.
Mr. President, it's very important we continue training our military, so important. But one of the things in sequester is we cut back in training and maintenance. That's the way sequester was written. Now, the bill that's on the floor, we hope to pass today helps that a little bit. At least in the next six months, it allows the military some degree of ability to move things around a little bit. Flexibility, we call it, and that's good. But we have to be very vigilant. This sequester should go away. We have cut already huge amounts of money in deficit reduction. It's just not appropriate, Mr. President, that our military can't train and do the maintenance necessary.
These men and women, our Marines were training there in Hawthorne. And with this sequester, it's going to cut back this stuff. I just hope everyone understands the sacrifices made by our military. They are significant, being away from home, away from families, away from their country.
I have a real strong suspicion that Harry Reid is a woman. I mean, that voice...and he misses his trees blooming...yada, yada....I think in some confusion, Nancy Pelosi ended up with Harry's pair and won't give them back.

I'm not entirely sure what the continued suggestion that being a woman is an insult is intending to do. While suggestions of gender transgression have been a popular meme throughout political commentary, I've never seen them in a medium more challenging than political cartoons.

To say, "Your position makes you less of a woman" or "With this opinion, they cannot be a real man" it would seem to be less of a swipe against the views you find challenging and more a commentary on the rather small scale in which critics engage with the world.

In saying, "I only know men/women who think like I do" or "who think in ways I find acceptable" you're not challenging the operative gender identity of the target but simply highlighting the lack of scope in persons you've interacted with.

I'm especially interested in the exchange with Che that's been going on over several threads. The idea that femininity, coupled with a different view point changes perceived femininity into a childlike or powerless class is a timeless idea but one I rarely see used today to dismiss challenging viewpoints. By using a form of femininity to label viewpoints and persons as childlike or powerless, you're creating a link where one's womanhood becomes a burden to be carried through the dialogue.

The "you're just a little girl" message has continued to be quite popular, though we've seen it's use begin to wane to the older population as the stigma against being active and engaged as a female has begun to dissolve.

I'm not sure this would run counter to what I'm talking about.

Being interested in someone with traditionally masculine traits is one thing.

Using someone's gender as a goad when their opinion fails to match your expectations or desires seems a different thing all together. Unless you're going to spend your time telling folks who lack the traits you're interested in that this invalidates their gender identity? Which seems unlikely.

It is even more offensive to a woman, I would think, when the "you are a little girl" is addressed to a man. It suggests that merely being a woman makes one lesser than a man. That is what George has been trying to do with me for months. No matter how many times I try to ask him about it, he refuses to engage. I can't believe he thinks so poorly of his dear mother that he thinks it insults me to classify me with her by gender.

I have heard from good authority that Paco's mother wear's army boots.

I also have informants telling me that George is highly qualified (but not over-qualified) to shine Herman Cain's shoes.

I don't see it offensive, so much as a statement about the limits of the speakerís life experiences.

Trying to reduce a woman's viewpoints would suggest a lack (or more likely a desperate ignoring of) women in one's life who are able to offer something of substance. Of course you're going to view a woman's input as less valuable if you've worked to build and carefully maintain a life in which women aren't seen as meaningful, independent agents.

I think the more common swipes that people with different opinions 'aren't real men' or aren't real women' show the same sort of yawningly small perspective. While intended to be offensive, I've always read them as rather clowish.
