That's because of the criminal element, not the police.
What has come out today is that two of the cops were the main shooters. One shot 40X and the other shot 30X, and both have negative reviews in their job history.

Sometimes the police are bad like Vick Mackey on "The Shield."

I am OK with my karma, thank you very much.

But my point was that what you have seen of the continent of Africa is places and situations that were in need of assistance. Sorta like trying to judge Ames, Iowa base on the slums of Mexico City.

Most of you who've never had any dealings with common everyday poor blacks have nothing but a negative image of them. You think they're living better than you are without working. I challege any of you to do what mayor Booker will try this week, and that is to live on a SNAP diet for a month! Buy everything you need on a budget of $200 a month with three children.
With no income (welfare or other cash benefit doesn't count as "income" for the purpose of determining food stamp eligibility or benefits), a family of 4 gets $668 a month in food stamps. A family of three maxes out at $526. That's 30% more than I spend for a family of three, and we invite my in-laws over for steaks once a week!

And for those who have income, it's the max amount minus 30% of the income, so if you're a family of four with $1500 a month income, you'd get $688 minus 30% of $1500 ($450) or $238 a month.

What Resources Can I Have (and Still Get SNAP Benefits)?

Households may have $2,000 in countable resources, such as a bank account, or $3,250 in countable resources if at least one person is age 60 or older, or is disabled. However, certain resources are NOT counted, such as a home and lot, most retirement (pension) plans, the resources of people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the resources of people who receive Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)(formerly AFDC), and, up to $4,650 of the fair market value of one car per adult household member (and one car per teen-aged household member if the teenager is using it to go to work, look for work, or prepare for work). If a vehicle is needed to transport a physically disabled household member, its value is not counted. The resources of people who get SSI and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) are not counted at all.

AND...

Immigrant Eligibility Requirements

The 2002 Farm Bill restores SNAP eligibility to most legal immigrants that:

- Have lived in the country for 5 years; or
- Are receiving disability-related assistance or benefits, regardless of entry date; or
- Starting 10-1-03, are children regardless of entry date.

Certain non-citizens such as those admitted for humanitarian reasons and those admitted for permanent residence are also eligible for the program. Eligible household members can get SNAP benefits even if there are other members of the household that are not eligible.

(See Policy on Immigrants for information on qualified alien categories and eligibility)
(See also SNAP Guidance on Non-Citizen Eligibility)

Non-citizens that are in the U.S. temporarily, such as students, are not eligible.

A number of States have their own programs to provide benefits to immigrants who do not meet the regular SNAP eligibility requirements.

But nearly 100% of the time, those who run from the police "are bad."
And, as any intelligent citizen knows, to run from the police is to risk your life and the lives of others; in cases such as this, either by high-speed collision or final apprehension by the police.

From "How to Avoid Getting Shot by Police" [wikihow]:

#1: Never flee from police. If the police approach you and speak to you, do not run or even walk away. Regardless of your rights, doing this arouses suspicion and greatly increases the chance of a fatal misunderstanding...

Oops. Bad eyes... That should be $668 (and thus $218).

Well Mr. D2, seeing that European colonization and oppression shaped the conditions that we witness today, we'll never know how Africa would've turned out. You're only looking at after the fact circumstances.

We do know that the African continent survived thousands of years before Europeans were civilized by the Romans. Europe was no different in backwards tribalism and conflict as were all societies back then. The Romans taught you savages how to wash before eating and the use of utensils. Before the Romans, you were dragging your women by the hair and wearing bear skin smocks. They (Romans) called you barbarians.

Oh, you mean that if Africans had kept other Africans as their own slaves, that Africa would be what America is now?

There are geographic realities as to why Africa did not develop, mainly the lack of rivers excepting the Nile that were suitable for transportation and irrigation. Not to mention that certain staple crops can't grow in the equitorial zone. Or that you can't domesticate rhinos.
Name one single African country that is worth living in. They all suck, not a single one respects basic human rights.
Oh, once again you're comparing a modern European standard towards some under developed African state that's controlled by European educated black dictators. How grand white of you. That's like comparing Simi Valley California to E. St. Louis low income area. Not all African countries have natural resources to exploit for profit. If not for the oil Arabia would be a empty sand bowl.

You're thinking of survivor benefits.

SSI is for people who cannot work because of a (supposedly bonafide) disability and who didn't have enough quarters to get Social Security Disability; or for children who, if they were adults could not work because of their disability and whose parents are below some level of income (I believe it is twice the federal poverty level) and have less than a certain level of salable assets (I think its the same as the bankruptcy exclusion). There are just over 5 million people getting SSI. These people can qualify for other benefits, such as food stamps, medicaid, housing subsidies, etc, depending on family situation, income of others in household, etc. Nothing wrong with the program's intent, but it is, unfortunately, sometimes abused.
