This is an udder tragedy! I hope that the women of Cowtown come to the rescue of these children in need. If we all work together we can nip this problem. The donation numbers have been sagging for a long time and the milk banks need your support.
That was a GREAT play on words. Thanks for a really good laugh!

Powerdered milk? Really? If you go to the website provided in the article you will see that it is mostly premature infants or babies with life threatening diseases that get the donated milk. Breastmilk is the best choice for a sick infant. Breastmilk is easily digested and has a ton of health properties that help fight off disease and heal the body. Just google "the benefits of breastfeeding" and you will get more detailed info. You can't say the same for formula and certainly not powdered milk.

I donated 22 + gallons to the Mother's Milk Bank when I nursed my daughter. I'm not able to donate this time around due to medication I must take for a medical condition that I developed postpartum, but I wish I could donate again.

I don't understand how a premie would die if they were fed IV fluids or formulas over the donated mothers milk.
I understand some women want their children specifically breast fed but if my son or daughter was preemie and they had a shortage on breast milk I'd be pumping my own, if I wasn't alive I would hope my husband would take whatever steps necessary to make sure our children survived even if it meant giving them formula or sugar water.
I may be missing something but there are other options out there too. I understand they are saying there is a shortage but I wouldn't go as far as to say these babies will die.

I tried to donate breastmilk, but was told that I cannot do that since I was born and raised in Europe. My guess is that some legislation or some rules are too outdated and need revisions.

Articles about premature infants possibly dying from lack of breastmilk are always good for a laugh, aren't they? Sad.

People raised in Europe or having visited there within the past 5 years are at risk for transmitting mad cow disease through their breastmilk.

It is not true that ALL babies given cow milk based fomulas live. In fact, research from 2010 found that formula is to blame for ~900 infant deaths a year in the US and multitudes of abnormal human development outcomes.

I would do all in my power to make sure my infant got human milk.

PETA is partially responsible for this with their madness:

My child was a preemie and I was told every drop of mother's milk give to her would be so much more beneficial than the IV formula.

maybe if they offered some sort of compensation for the milk they might receive more of it. I do not really know the answer for this one.

I read the article and PETA has nothing to do with this. You must be joking.

Kind of ironic that you would shoot someone down for making an insensitive comment and then call them a "reetard". Disabled people (and those who love them) get tired of seeing that word used as an insult.

My son was premature and the hospital could not emphasize enough the importance of giving him breastmilk. When I saw him hooked up to oxygen, feeding tubes and IV, I didn't question the importance of breastmilk, I just did what the hospital said and got a pump.

one reason there is such a need is because so many baby's are born to women who have drug problems ,and can not use there own milk ,this is not to say this is the case in all cases .but yes its very serious and the baby is the one suffering .helpfully this will help the cause getting the word out.
