Why do these people all have to fight in public? Don't they realize the drama alone keeps business away. The city ought to annex to Hyatts, build a sewer, and build the road themselves. The county clearly can't build anything.

Narrow round-abouts, 20 mph school zones, Powell police speed traps, etc will do nothing to move commercial truck traffic necessary to support development of the Delaware City Business Park. There is more bang for the buck to be had at the 36/37 corridor
Delaware City By Pass

What makes more sense is a Delaware City E-W "outerbelt" type by-pass. that way Routes 33, 42, 257, 315, 23, 36/37. I-71 would all be connected . That option would do more to spur growth on the west side of Delaware City than Sawmill PKWY.
Bausermans bighead

This is one of the projects on County Engineer Chris Bauserman's bucket list. He is convinced this road is required.

The City should build that portion of the road that is in the City. And pay for all of it. And the sewers, the water and the fiber. But, they have no money, so they want Big Daddy Chris Warbucks Bauserman to build it. And, someday, they will pay it back, or get the County to forgive it.

They said Monday 5/6 at the Commisioner's meeting that it might be 10 or 20 years before the area develops commercially around Sawmill, but they want the County to build the road now. Good idea. Spend $50 million on something that won't be needed for 10-20 years. Good fiscal policy.

The County Engineer's threat to widen South Section Line and Liberty Road is a straw man. There is no way the Commissioners are going for that either.

But keep in mind the Engineer is used to having his way, and you never know wha kind of smoke and mirrors he will pull out of his ample bucket.

Don't forget, if there was a demand for an Industrial park there, a developer would buy the land and build it. There is no such demand, and no demand for the forseeable future.

The whole thing is bad policy.
Bauserman Will Lose This

Miami, FL

O'Brien originally ran for Commissioner being opposed to the County building the Parkway. Merill says Delaware City should pay and Stapleton says there are other opportunities more deserving/ better investments.

It is an uphill climb for Bauserman for which he will be stopped short.
Road to nowhere

Powell, OH

Sawmill Parkway is a road to nowhere because the county has refused to run sewer or water in that area. No matter how nice a road is, nothing will ever develop without sewer and water services. If Bauserman believes so much in this road he needs to also run these utilities so that something actually happens along this road. The reason the city area is so prime for development is because it has utilities. Either do it right or don't do it at all.
Hmmm

Two million extra County dollars for the sewer for no one?,Commissioners re-evaluating the road tax?, Delaware City paying 50% of Sawmill Parkway?, 36/37 outlet mall infra structure needs ?. Looks like Sawmill is doomed and Bauserman's power base is eroding. Sawmill Parkway likely will have to be built by future developers in 10 to 15 years.

The political people of Delaware County/
City don't know what they are doing.Plenty of projects for nothing on the record. In review the City spent millions on the Ohio Health Grady relocation- the result nothing, the County spent millions on a new sewer plant in Concord Township-the result nothing. Now Both the City and County want to build Sawmill Parkway in 2014? What For? Another spending of multi millions of taxpayers dollars for a nothing in return project??

Funny how The Brush Hog is concerned that Delaware City residents will be double taxed, but perfectly comfortable with the rest of Delaware County residents subsidizing Delaware City's portion of Sawmill Parkway. Give us a break!!!

If Monday's Commissioner meeting is any indication say good bye to Sawmill Parkway funding and hello to money for infrastructure improvements for the outlet mall.

Wait till citizens realize they are spending tax money set up for roads and bridges on their own little projects. That will be awesome to watch.
Political Posturing

Richmond, VA

#13 May 22, 2013
All this amounts to is a bunch of political posturing when the real agenda is to further increase the Delaware County sales tax. County's are crying that the State of Ohio has decreased funding . Franklin County will no doubt be increasing it's sales tax, so Delaware County Commissioners are just laying the groundwork to follow using Sawmill Parkway, a new courthouse , 36/37 infrastructure, etc as a smoke screen.
Worthless

The Chamber of Commerce in Delaware is absolutely worthless. Its leadership thinks she is relevant, but she has no influence and no clue. The current leadership might be as bad as the previous, and former leaders were horrible. Go plan you next wine tasting and social hour. Stick to what you are capable, since I can't say "what you are good at".

Delaware should turn 36/37 into a highway (like Butler Co. did with Ohio 129 into Hamilton), connecting to US 23 and 33. If there is a way to extend 315 into 36/37, that wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Let the developers build Sawmill themselves.

The Deal

Beacon, NY

Time for a little hardball: Delaware City to pay half the cost of Sawmill Parkway within the City limits and in exchange the Commissioners will commit to the new Courthouse being built within the City limits. Otherwise no deal and the Commissioners will build the new courthouse outside the Delaware City limits.

The basic understanding needs to remain unfinished to continue attemping to slow a situation that has to exist to save a town that has the potential to maintain a population of no more than 15,000 as a maximum. It has grown to over 30,000 people in fewer than a 20 year period. Folks from the Columbus area can run but Never hide from issues of concern. Once they get to the south side of Delaware the standard of living is just like what they are attempting to run from. The boogie boys are everywhere.

Delaware City spent all their money on the Ohio Health debacle. Andrew Brush's grandstanding claiming that the City can only pay 25% (piecemeal for many years under a TIF) is nothing but smoke and mirrors to cover City Council's ineptness and lack of money due to past mistakes and mismanagement. The Brush is better suited to be a painter rather than a Councilman.
