Why do we care? He was a murder. A coward. I am glad he's dead and burning in hell. Some of the posters on here make me feel sick. Sad that we have so many stupid people posting here.

I was a cop working for sixteen-something an hour, and that was after six years, a Teamsters contract, and an FOP contract. And that was for the state. A lot of villages and townships pay even less. Get your facts straight. SOME cops make three times that, but not all do.
"Assaults on staff are outrageous, and the inmates to staff ratios are in critical & unsafe levels."
I agree. No argument there.
"Most just cruise around eat doughnuts and write tickets."
So unfair stereotyping is okay when YOU do it...I see. I wish everyone who said this kind of stuff got the sort of service they described. Spout off like this, and then when you're getting stalked and threatened by a former inmate, the cops would just eat doughnuts and write you a ticket for bothering them.
"When there is the RARE officer involved in drugs..."
...or sex with inmates, or betting on fights between inmates, or demanding sex or bribes from visitors, or seizing property that's not contraband (like family photos, college textbooks, etc.), or unnecessarily harassing inmates, or falsifying reports, or looking for any kind of excuse to assault an inmate, or denying medical care to injured inmates, or standing by while inmates get beaten (or raped or shanked), or joining gangs and getting all tatted up. One of the COs who survived the Lucasville riot was protected by inmates in the Aryan Brotherhood because he had neo-nazi tattoos on his neck.
I've known many prison guards. And while I liked many things about many of them, I'd have to say that they're all in the right place, just on the wrong side of the bars. Maybe being surrounded by criminals all day rubs off on you. Maybe being paid to make other people suffer poisons a person's soul and warps their mind. I don't know what it is. But I would sooner be homeless than be a prison guard. That's why I dislike so many Sheriff's Offices' policies of making deputies work the jails before they can patrol. It doesn't make you a better patrol officer and it makes you a worse human being.
I mean, really, being put in prison is the worst punishment we have in this society short of the death penalty...and guards make a career of going to prison every day. Sure, you go home after a shift or two, and you get a paycheck, but you're still spending most of your waking life locked up in prison. How sick do you have to be to like that?
Wow you called it. It's funny all the losers didn't like your post.... What a surprise....

And it's nice to get a point of view that tells the truth. What most people don't want to hear......The world has gone to hell. I'm sorry to say it's not coming back. So I got my weapons and ammo stock piled and supplies....... Just waiting to see how this ride ends.

The rest of you better make some plans for when the world does fall. You'll be running to someone with a gun to protect you....... unless you have your own.

Because you can bet the criminals will be out taking whatever they want. And killing whoever they want.........

Boy do I have a surpise for them..........

I will not go quietly into the night! I will not vanish without a fight!

Perhaps you should try it out, take a job paying 15 bucks an hour & not know if you will make it home to see your family at the end of the day. Assaults on staff are outrageous, and the inmates to staff ratios are in critical & unsafe levels.
Regular cops on the street make 3 times as much money and don't deal with these dangerous felons every day. Most just cruise around eat doughnuts and write tickets. When there is the RARE officer involved in drugs they get caught & pay dearly for being an idiot.
Perhaps if we staffed the prisons at safe levels and paid those folks what they should be earning they could babysit in the fashion you would like them to do.
"Regular cops don't deal with these felons", who do you think arrests them in the first place. When "regular" cops deal with these folks, they are loose on the streets. Rent-a-cops in the prisons deal with them in locked cells. If guards are supposed to check cells every 2 hours, this man's death was missed at least 3 times. And what's with this "PAID LEAVE" deal? Sounds like extra vacation time to me. Fire the bums. It would only take 30 minutes with these loafers, the following morning, to ascertain their guilt and fire them.

Why are they being punished? If the idiot wants to off himself and save our tax dollars then they should pass out rope.

Well at least the guards can have a paid vacation away from the feces, slinging animals.

I agree with you! They were NOT doing their job. Jason Stone was dead 8 hours before he was found. The guards are being punished for that, not that he commited suicide. They should not be getting paid while they are off.

Maybe the Dispatch should report on the number of COs who have criminal records.
DRC would like you to believe that drugs come into the prisons other ways, and they do, but the majority come in with the dirty COs. They either get paid with money or sex.
You can't get a correction officer position with a criminal record. And, you can't keep one if you get convicted of one after you are hire.

Not all inmates are locked in cells. There are prisons that have over 300 inmates sleeping in an open style dormitory. Yes, rounds are supposed to be made and counts are conducted routinely. But, other than a mandatory "standing" count once per day where the inmate has to stand unless medical issues prevent it; the inmates are counted and sometimes checked in their beds. I'm not saying the officers involved are completely innocent but, we do not have all the answers. If the inmate tied something around his neck and simply rolled over to tighten it while covering his face, the officers may not have noticed. When counting, officers are trained to make sure they see flesh, not to poke and prod to make sure the inmate is alive. Try checking 300 inmates in the dark sometime.

This man was in a cell and was found HANGING, not laying in bed, from a CELL window. The guards were supposed to walk past his cell every two hours to check on him. They apparently failed to do so, thus they should be disciplined.
