A few years ago I received a parking ticket for a meter violation next to the courthouse. It was my first parking ticket in Columbus, and I was sure that the meter had assessed my change incorrectly.
There was a website on the ticket where any disputes could be logged. I simply explained my circumstances and the relevant data in the area proivded on the website, and about a week later I was notifed that the ticket was dismissed.
Since then, I have not been successful in getting any other parking tickets dismissed.

Parked on Front Street across the street from the Park Street Tavern. Meters had several written statements on them. The coin entry side stated that meters were in effect from 8 am - 6pm. At the time I parked, it was roughly 6:15. Signs that went unnoticed by me were posted along the sidewalk and they stated that it was a tow away zone at a certain time (I can not recall). Noticing my car about to be towed, I spoke with the ticketing officer and he pointed out the signs. He could not explain why they did not list the tow away times on the meter itself. I appealed to no avail with proof consisting of pictures from my meter with no listings, and pictures from across the street which did have tow away listings on them.

I was visiting my 10 yr old Daughter At Children Hospital in Columbus. Parking spots were very hard to find in the hospital parking lot but I finally found one, or so I thought. There was an upright sign near the spot where I parked but I could not read it because of a blizzard the day before. Icy snow covered the sign and the letters were not visible. It's been several years now and
I can't remember what the sign said except-I now know now I was not allowed to park there. When I retuned to the car I had a parking ticket waiting for me. I did not remove the snow fom the sign. When I went to the hospital the next day the sign was still covered with snow & ice. I brought a camera with me and took a couple of pics. I showed the pics to the nice judge and he dismissed the charges including court costs. He kept one of the pics. Dan

You are taking advantage of our reading space to cry about you getting a ticket and wanting to know how to get out of it.

I "appealed" one in the 70's because I ran out of gas. Actually I just went to court and the judge dismissed it when I told him. He asked if my hood was up and I said no and he said next time put your hood up if you have car trouble.

If you want to expose corruption you should do a story on OSU campus area towing instead.

that was in the 70s when judges were actually supposed to think and stand for whats best or whether something actually fits.

I got the exact same ticket as Chad M! Right across from Park Street Tavern next to the NOrth Market. It is clearly a trap. There are signs in front of the meters that say you can park there, however one of the 10 signs on the street says its valet for certain hours during the weekend. Its nearly impossible to see the "valet" parking sign. And you don't even look at it because there is a sign right in front of the spot!! Its intended to deceive and fraudulent. I appealed it but could not show up to the hearing so ended up paying it. This should definitely be reported in your article.

APPEALED AND WON. WENT INTO PHYSICIANS OFFICE, PLACED EXTRA COINS IN METER. WHEN I RETURNED WITHIN THE TIME FRAME BY AT LEAST 15 MINUTES THAT SHOULD HAVE REMAINED ON THE METER= A TICKET WAS ON MY VEHICLE.. AND THE METER MAID WAS WAITING AT OTHER VEHICLES READY TO PLACE 'TICKET' ON OTHER AUTOS. SENT CHECK FOR THE 'FINE' WITH A LETTER TO THE MAYOR SINCE THE METER WAS DEFINITELY AND THE 'METER MAID' KNEW THIS. ADVISED I WOULD CONSIDER MAKING THIS PUBLIC AND REQUESTED ALL THE METERS BE VERIFIED FOR ACCURACY. RECEIVED MY CHECK BACK FROM THE MAYOR WITH A LETTER OF APOLOGY AND HE ADVISED ALL THE METERS WERE BEING CHECKED FOR ACCURACY!

look at these votes, lol! everyone has 1 racy, 1 mean, 1 disagree, no matter what they said.
Yet "Black lion" was the only to have all positives until someone changed that after I drew attention to it before.:))
I think youd have to be pretty gay to spend that much time padding votes in these forums.

Don't park where you're not suppose to and it won't be an issue. If you do, then pay the ticket and be done with it.

I parked outside the Short North Tavern and returned to find a parking ticket for "failure to display NC plates" properly. I had a NC plate in my back window that I had removed because I just moved here and just put on (that morning) my Ohio plates on both front and rear bumpers. Furthermore, the ticket was stamped with the time 2:40pm but it was after 6pm. I got a print out from OSU Transportation and Parking showing that my car was in the garage on campus at 2:40pm. I took this printout, my Ohio registration dated before the ticket. I took a few hours for my lunch hour, headed to the impound lot off Greenlawn Avenue to plead my case. I proved that the reason for the ticket was bogus and the time stamp was incorrect making the ticket invalid. It was thrown out.

No, I'm not a law student, but I believe fair is fair and I do my best to follow the rules and refuse to part with my hard earned money when the rules aren't applied fairly. I have successfully proven I was not at fault for tickets in NYC as well (similar failure to display) whose traffic court is notoriously difficult to argue with/win.

OK I'm the 3rd one caught by the scam confusing signs on W side of North Market. Taxi Zone starts at 8pm but the signs are way off to the side, and there are more conspicuous signs that fail to mention it. I talked to a fairly nice guy at the sign department who came out twice to look at it, but the way the regulations are written, they are legal because there's no rule about conflicting signs, just how far they need to be. Why can't commen sense rule - you can't have different rules on different signs applying to the same parking spaces! It's ridiculous! I'll happily follow them if I can SEE them for @!$#@! sakes. I was there to volunteer for a charity event cause I couldn't affort the admission ticket. Such irony! Now, I'm $50 poorer anyway, and it appears the gravy train for the city continues.

For those who say things like "I was just going to be a minute...etc" I totally agree with you - I don't want to hear those sour grapes either - but I think there are alos lots of other situations. I'll happily take responsibility for my own mistake/misjudgements (I've had overtime meter tickets and paid them without issue) but there are some places where unclear signage or other factors apply - these should be corrected, so I think those are worthy of attention.

Any judges who sided against you and others should be severely punished and I mean severely. They have given an example of how they have no conscience against doing evil anytime they are given the authority to do so. They should never again be given the ability to commit an act against someone in any capacity.

I had to go to the impound lot to fight the ticket - not the court. We sat in a small conference room at the impound lot, there was a court reporter, a magistrate of some sort, and I. There were a few other people doing the same thing. This was back in 2000, so I'm not sure if the procedures have changed since then.

I moved here to Columbus, from another state. Soon after moving here I got new tags for my car. Not long after that I sold the car because I wanted to get a new one. In the state I moved from, tags are sold WITH the car. I was NEVER informed by anyone that in Ohio, that is not the case. Since selling my car 3 years ago, I have received numerous parking ticket from my sold car. I have filled out EVERYTHING to stop this to no avail. I keep getting these tickets sent to me and I am required to pay them. THIS MAKES NO SENSE TO ME WHATSOEVER! Every official tells me, "fill out these forms and this will take care of it". Then I receive ANOTHER ticket and they say I HAVE to pay the ticket. The system is broken! I do not understand why I have to keep paying for a mistake, that I was never even informed of, was a mistake!

I've contested two, wasn't in violation of either, was denied a hearing after initially contesting, and never won a single one. Columbus parking officials are a bunch of fascists, all they want is your money.
