I seen the crash on my way home from work traveling in the opposite direction and it made my heart drop. My prayers go out to the families of both parties involved and the individual that remains in critical condition.

270 is deaths superhighway.... left lane slowpokes who in turn cause people around them to swerve into other lanes just to get around them. Not to mention the numerous times I see people pass on the shoulders to get around people. Then you have the other extreme... people doing 90mph weaving in and out of traffic, no signals.

Finally 270 is nothing short of a gravel road with all the potholes, horrible patchwork pavement and that weird rubbery seal they shoot into cracks which turns into a slip and slide when it gets wet.
No nonsense

It was not immediately clear what led up to the crash: My first guess is carelessness & stupidity.

the kid that died went to my school. he just turned 16 in may and was taking his in car driving test to get his licence when he was hit by another driver or something like that. he wasn't texting or anthing else since he had his instructor in the car with him. so this wasn't his fault.
this terrible accident is hitting our city hard.

He was pulled over. Possibly obeying the law as he used his phone.
Accidents happen. I feel for the parents.

I personally knew dalton, and he was a wonderful person. It's sad he had to go so young. He had a great sense of humor and could cheer anyone up.

We'll miss you, dalton. Rest In Peace.

This sucks. My question is: If it happened around 630p.. and it was just a couple of cars, why did it take 4 hours before the highway was re opened? I had to sit in that traffic and it was crazy! I send prayers out to him and his family and friends. 270 is a joke. By the way: They may have had every reason to take 4 hours to open the highway but I just don't see how. It is what it is I guess.

I feel horrible for this boy and his family and friends. What an awful thing to happen. I don't understand though, when did they start doing drivers tests on the freeway? When I was 17 and got my license, I did one in car on the freeway, in a time that was not rush hour, and my drivers test was only on residential streets. It is horrible to take someone who is a new driver on the freeway in rush hour..
I also think it is awful when people complain about being stuck in traffic for something like this. When there is a fatal accident, they have to close the freeway to investigate the entire area surrounding the accident. How would you feel if it was your family member or friend who was killed...would you rather they open the freeway right away and not investigate? Sorry you were stuck in traffic but this kid lost his LIFE...I am sure you still go to go home to your family, and you can still go on with your life...he can't.
I don't know this boy or his family/friends but I just can't believe how people complain about traffic in a situation like this.

My son is a good friend of Daltons, and like him I know there are many friends and family members wondering why this has to ever happen, especially to such a fine young man. Our prayers and thoughts are with you Dalton, your family and dear friends. You will be missed, but never forgotten.

Sorry, "left lane slowpokes" don't give anyone the right to SWERVE into other lanes just to get around them. And 270 is nothing short of a "gravel road"? Give me a break with your theatrical description of 270. I will agree with you about the dangerous speeding drivers, for which there is no excuse. As for all your other descriptions, excuses for poor drivers endangering others by speeding, tailgating, etc.

Many people will surely respond to tell how how cruel you are to think of motorists' wasted time when a young man has died. I am NOT one of them.

If making me wait four hours would bring Dalton back to life, then I'll gladly wait. Otherwise, open the berm and let me get home.

So sad. People need to be more careful when driving. I hate driving anymore...I see girls texting, I see young boys driving recklessly, I see people not paying attention. Wake Up People. Your not the only one on the road. It can happen to you or somebody you care about..............I sick of reading about people dieing in car accidents.
