Having said that, this is topix, you can expect to hear all kinds of adjectives and nouns refering to other posters. We all are quilty of that because it's not a face to face conversation. It's simply part of the territory. And is amusing much of the time.
che is a moron. That's my learned opinion.
Excellent!!!
Make a statement...then take it back completely, knowing that the original statement places you in a box.

if it weren't for people like "Annie", I wouldn't post because I'm not very bright either. In fact I'm real good at either chasing my tail , or running away like a bitch with my tail tucked between my legs when presented with facts I don't like.
Yeah if it weren't for people like "Annie" I would have to ride my unicycle away at the end of every post.

James Buchanan wrote:
I am now “solitary and alone,” having no companion in the house with me. I have gone a wooing to several gentlemen, but have not succeeded with any one of them. I feel that it is not good for man to be alone; and should not be astonished to find myself married to some old maid who can nurse me when I am sick, provide good dinners for me when I am well, and not expect from me any very ardent or romantic affection.
Continuing to LOL @ your gay obsession.

James Buchanan was not gay. Not as we understand it today, and not as they understood it then...

But you know what? If you want him to be gay -- if it makes you smile to think of the man as a closeted pioneer of equal rights -- go for it. The rumors will certainly never die. If Tom Cruise, with two smoking-hot wives and numerous babies, is as gay as the day on Teegeeack is long, why not James Buchanan? You can argue that he’s latently homosexual, filled with urges and repression, and there’s no evidence to prove you wrong.

Just save some respect for our actual first gay president, and our first woman president. You know, Eleanor Roosevelt.

Yes. If his race, sexual orientation and political view were all they were basing their opinion upon.

I don't even like the use of the adjectives used to describe the person and do not see how they have any influence on their opinion of a person. Frankly, when someone uses slurs when voicing their opinion of someone, I feel it just weakens their position and they've lost the debate.

HOWEVER, if they had found character lacking in the person you describe, I think they sould be allowed to voice their opinon without being called a bigot, racist or homophobe and facing a lawsuit/retribution by some 'social justice' group. Simply, it's freedom of speech.

Having said that, this is topix, you can expect to hear all kinds of adjectives and nouns refering to other posters. We all are quilty of that because it's not a face to face conversation. It's simply part of the territory. And is amusing much of the time.

No it is not.

Maybe you can get together with Reality Speaks and share the cost of a dictionary. Although if you actually used and comprehended it your posts would be that much less amusing.

I see the part where you state that you feel that anyone using slurs to express an opinion of someone else automatically loses any argument ( we should call it Seriouslady's Law), and I see the part where you express your opinion of someone with a slur.

So what, exactly, is the context here?

Hey you dolt.

We all know what you wrote. Its right there in black and white.

One minute you state that name calling implies that the name caller has lost the argument. The next you excuse it.

The to finish it off, you call someone names.

Great stuff Annie. Its why we all love you so much, even though you can't balance yourself on a bike.

I haven't argued a thing. I have merely posted a quotation for others to come to their own conclusion about what it might signify.
I have found another quote that might explain your desire to not believe that maybe there were gay professional people in the 1800's :-)
http://www.salon.com/2012/05/14/our_real_firs...
Despite such evidence, one reason why Americans find it hard to believe Buchanan could have been gay is that we have a touching belief in progress. Our high school history textbooks’ overall story line is,“We started out great and have been getting better ever since,” more or less automatically. Thus we must be more tolerant now than we were way back in the middle of the 19th century! Buchanan could not have been gay then, else we would not seem more tolerant now.
Buggery was a crime at the time, as evidenced by Pennsylvania sodomy laws:

"A digest of Pennsylvania law published in 1812 could not bring itself to print the word "buggery." It was printed as "B_GG__Y."

In a law of 1829, the penalty for sodomy was reduced, for a first offense, to five years, with a second offense to be punished with up to 10 years. All prisoners were to be kept in solitary confinement at labor. They were allowed only coarse food and no visitors.

A new criminal code of 1860 included one of the most comprehensive anti-sodomy laws ever enacted. It raised the penalty for a first offense from five years to 10, still in solitary confinement at labor, and established a fine of up to $1,000. A separate section outlawed both an assault to commit sodomy and solicitation for it. The penalty for either of these was set at a maximum of three years in prison and/or a fine of up to $300. Other provisions limited the number of officials who could admit an accused sodomite to bail, permitted conviction of accused sodomites by outlawry, and set a statute of limitations for prosecution at five years. Anyone having knowledge of an act of sodomy and not reporting the same to authorities was guilty of compounding a crime and could be sentenced to three years in prison and receive a fine of up to $1,000."

****

Political candidates of Buchanan's time were far less generous toward each other than the pansies of today, as evidenced by my previous link...which you obviously did not read:

"Could a man in his position keep such a relationship secret? Buchanan had detractors, including Jackson, the most powerful and surly Democrat in the universe. If they had a smudge of dirt, throwing it would have been the norm: years before Buchanan took charge, Jefferson had been publicly diagnosed with jungle fever, Jackson was accused of being a party to bigamy, and Jackson in turn accused John Quincy Adams of being a pimp.(Seriously. It’s a long story.) You don’t get to be president by sheer force of will—power brokers have to sign off on your ascent. Serious suspicion would have kept JB from the top of the mountain, but there’s no record of Buchanan being upset by the snickering. Because there was no secret to keep."

I'm glad we have been able to establish who the true purveyors of personal attacks on this forum are. Gokeefe and Bizzy must be so upset at all of you even though they are afraid to say so.
Um. Wait. You know, when I said last night I was leaving, I left. I went to bed. I had a 6am alarm. Afraid to say what? I didn't respond because guess what.... I work for a living, and have friends/family outside of Topix. I don't obsessively sit here looking for attention like you. I worked from 7:30 am this morning until after 6 tonight and had dinner with a friend on my way home.

I'm not upset with anyone here. I happen to like the pizza dude too. He cracks me up. To me, the ability to make someone laugh is a virtue. Doesn't mean I agree with him and march lockstep with him in my boots and brownshirt. We've disagreed before on things, quite civilly and can open to each other's points of view.

Why waste the energy worrying about this? I just don't like you. So guess what? I went to bed, got some extra ZZZs last night because you weren't worth my time or energy. Purveyor of personal attacks? Really LMAO. Just because I've gone after your pathetic thinking, don't project that onto others. Really, your insecurity complexes are pretty obvious. Grow the hell up. You're such a tool. Get a life. You really are flipping out.
