The SUV driver claimed to be swerving to avoid 'debris'. I say if she had been paying attention to the road instead of phoning (maybe) and following too close (probably) then she would have had time to react safely.
Goddammit people, things happen FAST in a moving vehicle -- PAY ATTENTION!
It's very bold of you to assume that she wasn't paying attention, that she might have been on the phone or following too closely. Have you never been driving down the road when something has fallen off the back of a pickup truck or utility trailer, or a semi has suddenly lost the tread off of a tire. I recently had to swerve to avoid a piece of concrete kicked up by a truck. I wasn't speeding, I wasn't following too closely, I wasn't talking on my phone. I was paying attention. I was in a different lane and the concrete came across my lane.

Yes, things happen fast and they can't always be predicted or avoided.

My prayers go out to this family.

No family deserves this, this is the worst news I have heard happening to folks in a long time. Its stories like this that question my belief in God.
God didn't do it - sometimes accidents happen. I can't possibly begin to imagine what the surviving family members will be facing in the days and months ahead. I wish them strength and peace as they mourn their loved ones and rebuild their lives.

This is an extremely sad and heartbreaking story. Prayers to the family. And I agree with other posters that we should be thankful for our own families.

because she was so worried about her precious suv 2 people are dead and 3 kids are orphans and her truck is still totaled, people who do this stupid crap should be charged with at least involuntary manslaughter.

Give family respect before someone can say something hurtful or out of line. They have suffered enough.
That is rich coming from you Mr mouthpiece. Why don't you shut you're hole on the other threads you deem worthy of being rude in.

The tender ears here only want to hear positives but you know in life there are good and bad things said about people.Censorship does no good.

No words can describe how the surviving families will cope with their losses. My family would like to know how can we help this family? Could the Dispatch please get with TV stations/Radio Stations to state where donations should go?
With Deepest Sympathy!

I second that. In fact, I think commenting has gotten so out of control on Topix, that it should no longer be allowed on the stories.
Absolutely not! So now we should censor any comments on any topic on this news forum???I am empathetic to the families of these victims but to ban all comments is wrong. Our liberties are being eroded quickly enough. Lets not hasten it along.
