TALLAHASSEE (The Borowitz Report)—Opponents of Florida’s Stand Your Ground law are attempting to mobilize support for a new law called Don’t Shoot Me for Absolutely No Reason.

The proposed law, which faces major opposition in the Florida legislature, would make it illegal for people in the state to shoot each other for no reason whatsoever.

“Under the provisions of Don’t Shoot Me for Absolutely No Reason, you will be required to have an actual reason for shooting someone,” said a spokesman for the measure, Harland Dorrinson.“This will be a first in Florida.”

The controversial bill has already drawn the ire of the National Rifle Association, which issued a statement today saying that requiring someone to have a reason to shoot another person would violate the Second Amendment.

“If you force someone to have a reason to shoot someone, soon you will be taking away his right to shoot that person altogether,” the N.R.A. said.

“We are not in principle against the idea of having a reason to shoot someone,” the N.R.A. continued.“But we believe you should be allowed to shoot the person first and have the reason second.”

Even if Don’t Shoot Me for Absolutely No Reason somehow passes in the legislature, Florida Gov. Rick Scott said today that he would veto it, telling reporters,“Making people in Florida have a reason to shoot each other would fundamentally change our way of life.”

Opponents of the Don’t Shoot Me for Absolutely No Reason legislation are proposing some of their own - Stop Being Stupid And Acting Stupid And You Are Less Likely To Get Shot. An unnamed spokesman said "If you don't give people a reason to shoot you your chances of being shot for no reason drop dramatically." Florida Governor Rick Scott said today "Wait... What? I'm confused! Can I get back to you?".

The obvious answer is to arm every licensed law abiding person with a Taser or stun gun.

A stun gun is cheaper than a handgun, and it would save a lot of children like Trayvon from getting shot, but not shocked.

I've seen enough tasers fail to stop criminals to know I will stick to my .40 pistol. Feel free to carry your pink pepper spray though duke.

If it requires the defendant to "prove" his reason, then it would be contrary to one of the most basic tenets of American jurisprudence... "Innocent until proven guilty". In fact, Ohio's (the only state in the union) self-defense law (outside of a dwelling or vehicle the person is authorized to be in) violates that tenet.

The grievance industry really got thier short and curlies caught in the act. Keep all this stupid shiiitt coming puleez. Keep stirring this pot all the way to the mid terms...puleez. And do you really want a civil trial????? Remember much of the damaging character evidence was suppressed for the criminal trial. No such thing will happen in a civil trial. More egg on your faces.

Not to mention that if you lose a civil trial, you have to pay the defendant's legal fees.

Odd, I'm guessing Shanikwah was all for a guilty verdict for O.J. and favored the civil suit he faced after being found not guilty.

That's the problem with with both sides, they want to have it both ways.
