Just a thought. Most of those who serve, as my father was, are very young. My dad? 17 YO when he got his hitch into the Air Corp in 1943. Those who serve find uncommon valor and bravery in them. I defy you to say this to a young returning vet who has come back with a missing limb or two or dealing with PTSD from what they have witnessed. And yet, they return and still contribute to this nation in many ways. They do not ask for, or demand, that anyone recognize them. Most vets are quite humble.

And the point of this is Memorial Day. A day to remember those who were lost in war. A pause for reflection. Another word I'm not sure you understand. What have you done for your country?

yesterday at the Worthington Memorial Day parade.
A grandfather and his entire family were sitting next to me and my family.
I had not noticed; but he was wearing a cap that said a proud Marine for life.
there were about 15 jeeps carring WW2, Korea, Viet Nam; and gulf vets in procession. They stoped all jeeps, everyone including WW2 vets that needed help to walk, got out of the jeeps and saluted him, asked if he wanted to join them.
he said thanks, it was his pleasure to serve and would do it again without even a thought.....returned the salutes.
I thanked him for his service; and he looked me right in the eye and said it is my pleasure. Teach your family what my friends died for; and make sure they understand why my friends died for them.
those that joy in spitting on the military today, are the first to hide behind us when they fear. The weak always find excuses for their weakness; and I did not have the opportunity to hide. I did what was necessary to give them the freedom to continue to be weak.
This grandfather was 61 and a viet nam veteren.
He is a shinning example of honor.
Thank you RS. Wonderful story, gave me chills!

Ideal bigger than an individual? LOL! I call that romanticizing.
What's so great about wasting precious national assets (money and life) going into Grenada, Cuba, Nicaragua? That's an ideal bigger than an individual?
The only ideal being expressed is dim thinking by the "Freedom Fries" crowd that couldn't have an original thought to save their lives.
to save your miseralble life, you would cry and hide behind a soldier.

you have the same balls as the Taliban hiding behind women & children.

and yet you wonder why no woman wants to lie next to you.

Why do you find it necessary to voice your opinion where none is required.

It's like an atheist who feels compelled to enter a religious forum and tell them they're wrong.

You're remarks were not to enlighten rather to denigrate and to express how others feel somehow bother you.

You do this on virtually every topic.

Why do you bother?

I stopped watching the news because the slant upset me so much. Once I stopped my frustration level dropped tremendously.

How about staying away from forums / topics you know will upset you.

LMAO! Lemming.
this lemming would punch you in the mouth, if you had the balls to say that to my face.

I would wash the blood off your face, by pissing on you.

want to meet for lunch; and have Glitter take notes?

I will even buy. How about Ocean Club Friday at noon?

because you think you are such a super lawyer, I would make sure the judge understood the situation; and ask permission to do it again for wasting taxpayer money to hear you whine.

my 24 hours in jail would provide time to reflect on months in a jungle getting shot at, so pussy's like you can whine like 1st grade girls.

Here we go with another hero worshipper. So, someone was in the military? All that means they learn how to do a lot of push ups and take orders. That doesn't make them candidates for beatification.
I worship my parents, my children, my family ... not warmongers and Rosie the Riveter. I have a life.

No warmonger. I would prefer to live in a world that has no conflict. However, human nature tells us otherwise. As Teddy Roosevelt said, "walk softly but carry a big stick."

No one beatified them. Now that they are dead and gone, it is between them and their God what happens. We simply are grateful for their service. Again, what have YOU done for your country?
Using your logic, you'd damn the Revolutionary War heroes as well.

You are the Y2K version of Hanoi Jane? I have a life as well, one rich with a lot -- in many ways because of those who have served and paid the ultimate price.

I don't know about that. Maybe they're like me and resent the fact that "heroes" are being manufactured and forced down our throats. If that's how you feel about it, more power to you. If you don't feel that way, you shouldn't be demonized for it, either. I'm not big on heroes myself.
While you have a right to your opinion, I find it hard to believe that you feel the need to voice it on this thread . More than likely as usual you feel the need to be contrary.

Go clean those latrines, "hero". And drop down and give me 100 push ups and an order of "Freedom Fries" while you're at it.
If you'd do some push ups and lay off those fries you might not be such a fat slob. One of the warning signs of chronic coronary disease is erectile dysfunction, so you may want to see a doc ASAP.
