I'm surprised the officers did not apologize to him on the spot and explain to him what was going on. That would be good police, community relations.

I, myself, reported a man to an officer I flagged down because he did not "fit" in the neighborhood. Yes, he was black. The police shortly found out he was a member of a construction crew.

Advice I always hear is to report people, and vehicles, who look suspicious and out of place; unfortunately, those suspicions can be race based but I don't consider myself a racist. It just caught my attention the man was in the neighborhood and there have been some recent incidents.

I would assume dispatchers would not even bother sending units out on these calls if they didn't feel they were important.

So, I think the young man should get an apology, perhaps from the chief himself. With the student's talents, perhaps this encounter would lead him to an interest in a career in law enforcement. That would be a great outcome.

As for the officers, they don't have the superhuman ability to instantly define situations. Sometimes it takes a while to put the pieces together, get the stories straight, and do the right thing.

99 percent of the time they are, amazingly, quite capable of doing this. In this instance, maybe things could have been handled differently. I'm just glad it did not escalate.

This was excellent police work.

The statistical reality, based on FBI Crime Statistics, is that young Black Males are 10 times as likely to commit violent crimes like homicide, rape, felonious assault, theft and other crimes against humanity. Xzavier fits the mold and in addition he is physically large and therefore that much more of a threat. The neighbor acted with statistical based logic and properly called the proper authorities who took appropriate precautions. This is similar to the Trayvon Martin case with a better outcome due to good police work. Blacks need to start following positive role models like Clarence Thomas, Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, Armstrong Williams, Ken Blackwell, J.C. Watts and other strong role models and realize they are fortunate to live in clean, safe, majority white neighborhoods and not try to sue police officers who job it is to control crime, which includes profiling potential criminals, and not coddling overgrown man child types.

No one was shot.

No one died.

the irony is that in NY the liberals and blacks want to get rid of the program to stop and frisk young black men. Of course, if they do that - the crime will skyrocket and the people effect will be blacks in the ghetto.

I am a BLACK female. I am not a racist. I am acquainted with people of diverse cultures. But I am so SICK and TIRED of WHITE SUPREMECISTS trying to tell Black Americans what they should do. You will NEVER know what it is like to be judged by the color of your skin and not the content of your "character" (Dr Martin Luther King Jr) because you are so blind-sided by your own Delusions of Grandeur. I am educated, beautiful, intelligent, self-sufficient, and I know who I am and where I am headed. I do not consider myself "priveledged" to live in a majority "white" neighbor. I do not define myself based on any other person or group of persons. I define myself by the knowledge of my Creator, who says that I am blessed and not cursed, the head and not the tail of ANYONE. Oh, yes, and by the way, I am proud to say that I served this great nation, the United States of America in the Armed Forces. So please, pardon the ignorance of how this next comment sounds as I quote the previous writer: Shut up, grow up and turn off your I-pod.

Some of these stop and frisk incidents have turned out to be driven by a police quota system, FYI.

She does not address the statistical reality that young Black Males commit the vast majority of homicide, felonious assault and theft and deserve to be profiled just like Muslims commit the majority of terrorism.

There is no need for an apology from Police who did a good job when this young man frightened neighbors and was not listening to commands from police.

Turn off the gangsta rap young Black Males!

Except I just happened to flag down a policeman; it was daytime; and I never gave thought to pursuing the guy. Not really comparable.
