"500k is not that much". This shows how out of touch you are with the rest of humanity. For your average working stiff, that's at least 10 years of salary, with no money for anything except to pay the bill. This is why a high percentage of bankruptcies are medical ones.
So there IS an already existing remedy.

Duh, ya think? The point is, when you file a large claim under insurance, other people are paying YOUR freight.

They CHOSE to do so. That's different than holding a gun to their head and forcing it out of them.

[QUOTE]That's what all these rugged individualists are beating their chest about, everybody has to pay all their own stuff all the time. If you believe that, you CAN'T believe in insurance without being a hypocrite.
I believe in insurance for the purpose insurance exists. To guard against loss. Your house insurance doesn't pay for paint and pretty little flowers in your yard, and your car insurance doesn't pay for oil changes and fuzzy dice. And your neighbor doesn't pay your premiums for either.

Your first paragraph proves my point. Get hit with a devastating illness, and I guarantee all the premiums you have and will pay won't come close to covering the cost of your treatment. From that point on you will be using other peoples' money.
I've paid more than $300,000 in premiums in my lifetime, and haven't used more than $10,000 worth of services.

You're welcome.

100% in agreement that our health should remain between ourselves and our doctors. Why all the HIPPA laws if any low level, or high level government can have access to the information?
But, Tony, most re-admissions are at an emergency leve. How long does one have to wait for governemntal 'pre-approval' for 're-admission?'
That's the 800 pound gorilla in the room, isn't it?
That punishes the tax payers who fune the bloody (and it will be) Obamacare in the first place.
Yep. Not satisfied with simply redistributing wealth, they've decided to redistribute health (and by extension, life itself) too. I'm starting to see why Karl says this country is going to burn... maybe it needs to.

Yet. One nasty accident can put you in the arrears column quickly.

Perhaps, but Obamacare is no better... just penalizes people who don't use many (or any) medical services. The kind of people who don't pay their medical bills more likely than not won't pay their copays and deductibles either, and will STILL use bankruptcy.

Of course you COULD just eliminate the cost before it happens. If you can't afford the proposed treatment, and cannot find someone WILLING to foot the bill, just die!

I'd have to question your statement that the majority of bankruptcies are caused by healthcare expenses. Do you have stats on that?

I made no such statement.

Again, your reading comprehension needs some work.

SL is correct. She may not have known the specifics but hospitals will be graded on quality indicators that will affect their payments. Those low performing will suffer financially.

That makes Che the idiot! Nothing new here.

SL, Kemo can't remember what he said. Instead he wants your $. Has every use for it except to teach responsibility.

No use discussing with him, he of the simple mind that believes government is the solution.

You got ripped off by an insurance company and you don't care. Do you think you would have paid $300,000 in taxes in that same period if we had a single payer system?

Stats? His stepson's wife's cousin's mother had to file bankruptcy because of medical bills. It's good enough proof for you on every other issue. Suddenly, you want stats?
