I have a friend who lost his leg in a bike accident on 5/24/11. Other injuries also, breathing is not good and he has a trach. 13 surgeries in 12 months.

Single, 34, father of 2, 13 years with the employer he had at the time of the accident.

He's been turned down for disability twice. No income since 5/24/11. His depression is devastating. Freddie Mac is foreclosing on his house.

I am constantly making calls for help from politicians. HUD cannot help unless he has an income.

I wish this guy luck. Joel's leg too, was all but detached in the accident.

Does he drive a hearse? Seriously!
Wasn't there a fatality in that accident?

Sorry about your friend. How can he not be disabled with all that? There are perfectly healthy people that get disability for depression.

I have no sympathy for anyone injured or killed on a motorcycle because they're fully aware of the high risks when they choose to balance themselves upon two tandem wheels that offer zero protection in the event of an accident.

idk...the first denial said he was 'capable of working and making $810.00 a month.' Which he wasn't, he wasn't even done surgeries on his larynx. That was before he even had a prosthesis. And what's he going to do on $810. a month? Second denial said the same thing. And that was with an attorney representing him.

I went though his congressman's office this time. They have been very nice....but no hearing until January 16th.

It's been so hard on his mother and family, keeping his utilities on. They've maxed thier credit out. Joel's a 'natural wrench.' Superior mechanic and he trys to do side work, but it's hard for him. He's got my Buick now. It just makes no sense. He can't say a sentence without stopping to breathe. He has no leg. And now medicaid is giving him a hard time.

I did get the foreclosure delayed by asking for mediation. His local bank have been wonderful. It's Freddie Mac, the underwriter, pushing the foreclosure. His kids are 4 and 8.

I wrote to Biden's office, but never got a call or acknowledgement.

Well, that's very sweet of you. May you lose your leg in an MVA tomorrow on the way to work.

Oh please cry me a river. Your friend lost his leg because he chose to ride a motorcycle. Try telling your sad story to a military veteran who has lost one or more limbs while defending freedom.

None of the veterans you speak of "chose" to be injured either. Motorcycle riders, including me, are exercising the freedoms military veterans fought for. Thousands, if not millions, of motorcycles happen to be veterans too. Go spew your hate elsewhere.

I want to echo your sentiments. How the hell is this man expected to care for himself and his family while paying a mortgage and utilities on $810.00 a month? Totally outrageous.

NO. I'm not racist, but I feel if he was he would have been approved by now.

Catching up on topix and saw Georgie's thread re: foodstamps; foodies having a hey day with gourmet foods and this guy is fighting to keep the lights on. Sick to my stomach.

You'd be shocked how many posters have anger issues. They bring them here instead of facing the real world.
