Todays kids really lack common sense and some are more criminal than delinquent.

I live in Columbus Ohio in one of it's safer neighborhoods. I couldn't help but shake my head when I read this article. The shooting that took place Saturday around 8:30pm was at Eastland mall. I enjoy listening to police scanners (yeah I know seems dull)and had it on scanning all 5 of the LE zones. They did not arrive on the scene quickly the medics did. They also did not have an immediate suspect. What they did have was a very frustrating night/morning as they had to spend 3 or 4 hours playing marco polo with the idiots trying to distract them from finding the shooter. I can't say it was gang related, but several people did help all of them putting some distance between one another and the police and taking turns firing a weapon. Someone would call it in and off the patrol would go. They were chasing their tails and knew this but they had no choice but to go. After that they finish with witnesses who scanners we learned all insisted on being anonymous,(don't blame them)or refused to give a statement. The part that really angered me was how this article tried to spin it. Either our writer needs better sources or those quoted second hand need to stop lying. The Eastland Mall hasn't been around very long and while being built many advised against it due to the fact that the area was becoming more and more dangerous. This is nowhere close to the first time something seriously wrong has occurred. This isn't even the first shooting to take place there. If you find that hard to believe just Google Eastland Mall shooting. This is the tip of the iceberg and no one here was surprised when it was reported. As for the place always having a steady stream of customers from what little I have seen they don't other than the residents from around the mall. When we moved here I didn't know any better and was driving my mini van down the street because I got lost. I had a blue bandanna on my head because I had been cleaning and thought nothing of it. An officer pulls me over and asks what I was doing in that area. I told him and explained that my navigation system was now directing back to the interstate. He then informs me that I should never be in that area, high street, and some other at that hour and never wearing a bandanna. So I took it off and he insisted on leading me out and onto the interstate so he would know I made it out safe. One person interviewed on the local news said " If you build a mall in the hood then you know the hood is gonna take it over". Most accurate depiction of this mess and it was said by a crackhead.

For the most part Easton is pretty safe. However, there are FAR too many minors running around and just 'hanging out' without adult supervison. This facility is a place of business not a 'hangout' for ill behaving youth or a place of babysitting for parents who can't control their children. Security and parents alike need to clear the isles, benches and sidewalks of these kids because it deters from 'paying customers' going in an out of stores to actually makes purchases and detracts from the pleasant experience of Easton. When the sun goes down or at a certain time, say 7 p.m. security needs to clear the area of these kids who should be at home anyway so that the 'paying adults' may enjoy a peaceful 'adult time' without filty mouthed and misbehaving children getting in their way.

Another sensless murder of a young male, what is it going to take for these children to value life? My prayers go out to the family during this tragic time.

This is really a big problem and I wonder what might be the solution. I went there on a Saturday night a couple months ago. It was freezing out, but the place was still shoulder to shoulder with kids, some appeared to be from middle class families, but some were clearly gang-banger wannabes, with at least a dozen Columbus police officers and an equal amount of Easton security people chasing the kids around. It was crazy and we could not wait to get out of there. Unlike most the kids, we were actually there to buy something ( I started watching to see just how many kids were carrying shopping bags. Not many). I hated to see City Center go and will hate to see Easton decline. I suspect some of the best security minds are trying to figure out how to create an environment where money spending shoppers feel safe to visit Easton on a weekend evening or warm summer evening. It will be interesting to see if they can figure it out. One or two more shootings and Easton is in trouble.

Let's talk about what gun laws we can enact now that could have possibly stopped this from happening. I have an answer....NONE! Freakin thugs.

The report on television last night said the shooter "didn't mean to shoot his brother......he was just shooting into the crowd". Nice, real nice. Time to fire up old sparky.

"I think it's symptomatic of larger issues," Paul said.

Yea no kidding... Perhaps at the home, parents are not keeping track of their kids, who would want to when they get threatened as his Aunt did? Not to mention these kids are not held accountable for their actions, parents or the mainstream tend to make excuses for them, "Johnny grew up without a Father and had it tough" for example...

Unless Easton prevents the "minors" from coming onto its property, this problem will continue until the mall closes due to a lack of shoppers.

If more people had been carrying (legally via a conceal carry permit) they would have been able to protect themselves, not take law into their own hands, but protect themselves. Thankfully nobody else got hurt. How does someone this young get a gun?!

Thanks Mayor Coleman, you LOSER! Boycott Easton Mall! Columbus is too dangerous!

Boycott all businesses in Columbus until Coleman resigns!

If he won't leave and the people don't elect a normal mayor, continue to boycott and make Columbus, a ghost town!

How does a 16 year old have a gun??? This society is sin sick. Is anyone tired of this yet??? We need the LORD in our families, schools, and government. It is not too late. This is the resulting work of the ACLU.

A thug will never abide by the law, it is always the fault of someone else. Just like Barry, it is always George's fault!
