7 year old kid gets suspended for eating his pop tart into the shape of a gun. Ah liberalism

And also in the news, a kid who liked all things military, his dad brought cupcakes or cake that had the little green plastic army men on top to school for the kids to celebrate his birthday. The school made them take the little plastic army men off because ...they had plastic guns.

Ah Liberalism and political correctness.

Keep voting Democrat, Lol

That would be a stretch.

And in case you forgot, the Hilliard system that you were bragging about is a part of the public education system.

And run by conservatives. There's little tolerance here for the blatantly leftist crap seen in urban districts.

For the board we elect, most definitely. For the staff, more like a common sense detector, it would seem.

If they follow their gun logic they should! I mean, someone might steal it from them and bite it into an illegal shape.

If he bit it into the shape of a bomb, would they have locked down the school?

suspending an 8 year old for playing cowboys and Indians with a pop tart should end with every administrator and teacher being fired who thinks this was good policy.

Whoever taught you how to compose sentences in English should be imprisoned.

George, you are such believer in your own fantasies. Read below excerpts from the Hilliard website, K-3 curricula. You will note that they differ very little from the kind of thing quoted from Chicago:

Third Grade:

GOVERNMENT STRAND
The learner will learn that:
• Members of local communities have social and political responsibilities. Groups are accountable for choices they make and actions they take.
• Individuals make the community a better place by solving problems in a way that promotes the common good.

LIFE SCIENCE STRAND
The learner will understand that:
• Offspring resemble their parents and each other.
• Individuals of the same kind differ in their traits and sometimes the differences give individuals an advantage in surviving and reproducing.

First Grade:
Social Studies
Theme: Families Now and Long Ago, Near and Far
The first grade year builds on the concepts developed in kindergarten by focusing on the individual as a member of a family. Students begin to understand how families lived long ago and how they live in other cultures.

Kindergarten:
Geography Strand, the learner will:
• Identify ways that individuals in the family, school and community are unique and ways that they are the same.

History Strand, the learner will:
• Communicate personal history (e.g., birth, toddler and preschool)
through stories, pictures.
• Discuss art, customs, traditions, family celebrations and language that reflect cultural heritage.

All Grades:
Wellness curriculum provides students with the knowledge,
skills, and understandings that lead to lifelong positive attitudes
and behaviors related to healthy living.
In Wellness, the learner will:
• Accept personal responsibility for lifelong wellness.
• Respect and promote the wellness of others.
• Understand the process of growth and development.
• Select and use wellness-related information, products and
services.

"Differ little"? Really? From Chicago:

“For K-4 students, instruction will center on anatomy and physiology, reproduction, healthy relationships and personal safety,” the website said.

“For example, younger students in this group will focus on the family, feelings and appropriate and inappropriate touching while students in fourth grade will learn about puberty, including the physical, social and emotional changes that accompany it, and the causes and transmission of HIV infection,” it added.

Are you truly that desperate to validate the far leftist control of kids as we see in Chicago, or is it the fact that you can't stand the fact that our district is light years ahead of anything you've ever experienced that upsets you? I suspect both for you to make such a blatantly false claim.

Everything posted on the Hilliard Curricula site pretty much comes directly from state/national standards.

Light years ahead?

And btw--the wellness curricula could well include exactly what is describe in Chicago--being as it is vague and all-encompassing and excactly the same at all grade levels. Really impossible to discern exactly WHAT is being taught relative to human sexuality.

As a parent in the district with neighbors and coworkers who have kids in elementary school, I know for a fact that the absolutely age-inappropriate idiocy in Chicago is NOT occurring in Hilliard.

Yes, light years, especially compared to the cesspool Gene Harris "runs."

"Hilliard Schools – Earns Highest Scores in Ohio District provides good value to taxpayers and high quality education for students Hilliard City Schools’ students are ranked number one for academic growth and among the top 11 percent for academic achievement of all school districts in Ohio."

In addition, our preliminary ranking of “Excellent with Distinction” is now official. Hilliard City Schools has earned this top rating for five consecutive years. Only 15 school districts in Ohio have achieved this accomplishment, including only four in Franklin County. Hilliard City Schools has the lowest cost per pupil of these four districts and this speaks to the good value we are providing residents.

Pretty hard to support without some info about what IS being taught.

And, btw--most the objections posted here about Chicago have less to do with the actual description of what will be taught than with what that might lead to.

Hilliard plainly includes the concept of "family" with some notion of diversity of structure. It's pretty hard to believe that the educated professionals of Hilliard are demanding that the schools pretend that there is no such thing as adoption, single parent families, or gay couples.
