Me too. I think they should change the voting laws to someone who can pass a current events test that's given each year. These youth don't seem know about politics, they just pick who is supposedly cooler, younger and better looking. Stupid kids. They will learn to regret their decision.

No voting if you receive welfare, wic, medicaid, or Earned Income tax Credit. In other words no parasites voting.

Now I am off to shut off the gas on some people that are registered democrats. I will no longer sell to democrats. Let them freeze to death.

Interesting to see how many layoff announcements have been made in the last 24 hours. Companies are not going to put themselves in a position to be fined over health insurance.

From what I understand, the Voting Rights Act would explicitly bar such laws or measures.

And this is exactly how the plan implodes.
Wait until Obama's "middle class" receives their Obamacare bills.

Layoffs and hours cut back. In some cases might be cheaper to have more part timers and little to none full time employees. Or in sales positions or factory reps training clients on newthe gear turn them into independent contractors

Voting Laws can be changed.....the founding fathers had a test...you had to be 18, male and a land owner as requirements to vote. Switzerland still has the same requirement except instead of landowner, you have to serve in the military.

If we had that law, I'd be willing to bet that at least 95% of the military voted for Romney, they're mostly informed voters.

Agree 100% the Obama voters are the ghetto, illegal alien and African animals and the government workers are the zoo keepers with five figure salaries and six figure pensions that are growing rich on the backs of the American tax payers who pay property taxes and income taxes while the ghetto queens sit back and collect government check after government check.

Democrats just voted for the man in the party who booed God, over and over, 3 times in fact, so they really meant to boo God, ok? Totally uninformed people, for sure.

Yes, what I'm saying is that the Voting Rights Act is specifically written to prevent tests (such as literacy or as you've suggested, a current affairs test) from being enacted.

The founding fathers had the dubious luxury of adjudicating elections in an America absent the voting rights act, the 14th amendment and the 19th amendment.

As a sidebar, I'm not quite sure where you've gotten your information on Swiss voting requirements as they seem to be nothing like you describe.

1) Name three companies making layoff announcements in the last 24 hours.

2) Support your assertion that it has anything at all to do with insurance requirements in 2014.

Not to mention violating the equal protection clause of the Constitution.

In fact, I think that talk of such measures, coupled with trying to slide a lot of measures with similar impact through in states like Ohio and Florida really energized a lot of voters who might otherwise have stayed home yesterday.

Taking away the right to vote is serious business.

Dunno, imagine. There's the elections have consequences category. And there is no mistaking that the last election brought health care reform, which hasn't yet harmed us and may yet accomplish for the US what Romneycare did for Massachussets. Some really archaic and nonsensical regs were removed from the armed services, and with no ill effects to date. And then there is the end of American involvement in Iraq and the timeline for draw-down of troops in Afghanistan. Meanwhile the economy, while not going gang-busters, has been moving in the right direction.

Then there's all the Armageddon's a coming predictions from the last election that haven't proven themselves out yet.

And further, despite your personal angst, there's a whole bunch of us (the majority according to the election rules) breathing a bit easier today with the certainty that some things are not so likely to happen in the next four years.

Dan--I understand you are upset.

But, maybe you would be better served by taking some deep breaths and a lie-down somewhere. You are making yourself look like an ignorant racist by calling people African animals.

...Well, if you’re Politico and reelecting Barack Obama is more important to you than breaking news…

You bury it under a generic headline:

"Division over platform at DNC"

"CHARLOTTE, N.C.— Two platform planks sparked division at the Democratic National Convention here Wednesday.

Things got so bad that President Barack Obama was forced to personally intervene, ordering language mentioning God and naming Jerusalem as the rightful capital of Israel be added.

Obama had seen the language prior to the convention, a campaign source said, but did not seek to change it until after Republicans jumped on the omissions of God and Jerusalem late Wednesday. And even then, it had to be forced through a convention hall full of delegates who nearly shouted down the change.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the convention’s chairman, kicked off Wednesday’s proceedings by trying to clean up a mess Democrats made by omitting from their official party platform mentions of God and of Jerusalem as the preferred capital of Israel."

Did you catch it?

Did you catch the story there?

Just in case, let me extrapolate:[emphasis added throughout]

"Obama had seen the language prior to the convention, a campaign source said, but did not seek to change it until after Republicans jumped on the omissions of God and Jerusalem late Wednesday. And even then, it had to be forced through a convention hall full of delegates who nearly shouted down the change."

Yes, you read that correctly. Politico was told by a source that all the spin coming from the White House and the Obama campaign wasn't true -- that, in fact, Obama had seen the new language long before the media uproar and did not seek to change it....

I don't see how you can say that. Median income is steady decline. So is purchasing power. I haven't had a raise in 5 years, and in 2014 I'm either going to have to add my husband to my health insurance for $400 extra a month (he lost his when he was laid off), or pay a $2000+ fine, further reducing my purchasing power.

If that's the "right direction" then what is the goal?
