I am in favor of this policy. Scofflaws shouldn't have liquor licenses.

Our Gestapo State in action. We look more and more like the old Soviet Union every day. Don't do this, do that, buy this, don't buy that, smoke this, don't smoke that, cameras there, cameras here, cameras everywhere, we'll send you your ticket in the mail! The yolk tightens more every day.

As a bar owner, I can tell you what many of us feel - especially in light of not allowing the renewal of liquor licenses and that is that this smoking ban was an INTENTIONAL ATTACK on our businesses; a backdoor attempt at prohibition. Problem is, it's backfired in that more liquor is being consumed than ever before....in front of the kids and after driving to the local party at the friends' houses.

The ACS lied about the smoking ban not hurting our businesses to sell it to the voters (along with the fraudulent ballot language claiming exemptions for family owned businesses and private clubs - NAME JUST ONE).

Query "alcohol" on the ACS' website and see the THOUSANDS of anti-alcohol publications. They KNEW it was going to close bars - their VERY INTENT.

Have you ever seen the IRS 990 form for the ACS on their website? They lobby for smoking bans, increased taxes on cigarettes and government payment for quitlines but did you know they made over $9,000,000 in revenue FROM QUITLINES in just one year?

So the State of Ohio wants to deny renewal of liquor licenses? They've vastly underestimated our ability to organize. We're mad as hell about the money we've lost so far. I guess we should all organize and sue the state for our losses under the "takings clause" for just compensation.

How much more will we allow this govt to take? FIGHT BACK PEOPLE! We The People DEMAND the nanny state retreat to the scum ponds from which they came. These bans on ANYTHING that the nannies convince our uneducated legislators must stop.. This nation would not exist had it not been for the tobacco market, not the taxes they brought in!
One of the 5 main things the Constitution guarantees is that this nation protect property rights (from smoking bans) and earnings (taken for tobacco control), yet this uneducated government would take away the rights of tobacco companies and privately owned businesses. The smoking ban is an attack! A U.S. Supreme Court judge once said "It's not the right OF property which is protected, but the right TO property, sacred from arbitrary interference.” It seems that tobacco control believes that they are in charge of the Constitution these days. We The People did NOT give tobacco control this power, and it's time to take it away from them!

Politicians are no longer leaders, they are followers, and this lands squarely on their heads. Much like the global warming scam, the second hand smoke scam has become like a religion for the extremists and beyond. It's blossomed so big it's now considered fact. Unless, of course, you do a little digging. You'll find out that it is exactly like global warming. All are financed by an entity that stands to gain huge profits. In the case of SHS, it's Pharma, makers of their own nicotine brands. I say it's time to take SHS to trial. Then lets see who wins, Pharma or our citizens and business owners who've been robbed of their right to run their business without a scam taking away their rights! Anyone bowing to this charade should be very ashamed of themselves!

Or, you could sit down and think about what you could offer that would induce nonsmokers to patronize your place (including not fudging on the smoke-free policy) and what might induce smokers to want to come back in after they step out for a cigarette.

why are you so mean and nasty, the owners, their employees and families are not bothering you nor do they force you to ever enter their privately owned businesses. Heck, tehre are no laws forcing you to enter their privately owned business, actually, the owners should thank Ohio for not forcing you in, your attitude sucks

Then you'd support removal of the American Cancer Society' s tax exempt status for fraudent tax returns and demand the return of tax dollars they have taken from the tax payers as well, correct? In tax filings of the ACS Consolidated Divisions close to $4 million dollars in lobbying were not reported on the IRS 990 returns for 2005-2006. This includes close to $500,000 the Ohio Division sank into this illegal law that did not have enough signatures to have been placed upon the ballot.
Wonder if the Ohio Attorney General would prohibit the ACS from solicitation in Ohio as well?

Are you suggesting haveing nicorette chewing gum spitting contest? At my American Legion even bands and DJs lost as with only 17 members present down from 150 to 175 due to the smoking ban that option is out. Hey let's have a new game trash the American Cancer Societys never ending begging for donations literature.

If people knew that only .10 of every dollar even goes to cancer issues, they wouldn't donate at all. The rest goes to keep 'the admin' rolling in millions.

There have been a lot of illegal actions prior to signatures being gathered to put the smoking ban on the ballot. The ballot itself was short almost 35,000 legal signatures and should have not been on the voting ballot. The state ignores what it chooses to ignore, therefore being illegal itself. Further, the taking of a license is NOT in the ORC. The bottom line is it is a back door attempt at prohibition. For those that want a little honesty of who brought us smoking bans and why, see this short easy read: http://cleanairquality.blogspot.com/2006/04/f...

If you dont like the smoke in the bar go some place else! We pay taxes for our smokes and we should be able to smoke in the bar. No children there, just adults. Find a smoke free bar, one that is willing to do that. I bet you wont!

So the government trained, paid, insured, and duly empowered Official Inspectors are afraid to enforce the law against smokers, but meanwhile the State fines the bars if their untrained, unpaid, uninsured, and unempowered workers refuse to act as Citizen Vigilantes in risking their lives in indentured servitude to the State?

Peg is right in not paying the fines. The fines are a disgrace to the way this country is supposed to be run. The government can draft citizens into the armed forces to risk their lives at the command of the State against foreign enemies in times of war. It provides those troops pay, training, insurance, power, and armaments.

It provides NONE of those things to the waiters, waitresses, and bartenders at Pegs but expects them to exercise illegal vigilante powers and subject themselves to both possible lawsuits and physical violence to do the dirty work the State doesn't have the stomach or the will to do itself.

I'm from Philadelphia: just last week some untrained bar personnel ejected a smoker from a bar a few miles from me. If a properly trained officer had been in charge of the situation they would have realized the ejectee was dangerous and done something about it. Instead we ended up with a half dozen people shot and at least one dead.

Peg, keep on fighting!

Have they put the kibosh on the idea of private clubs? Like a cover charge or one time fee for entrance as a work around the smoking laws?
