Chicago Will Require Kindergarteners to Take Sx Ed

by Christopher Goins

A new policy that was created in part with the consultation of Planned Parenthood of Illinois will require Chicago Public School students from kindergarteners and up to receive sxual health education instruction beginning in 2015.

According to the Chicago Public Schools website, the new policy passed last week requires “minimum instructional minutes” for students, and instructional material is tailored around age-appropriateness and “medically accurate information.”

“It is important that we provide students of all ages with accurate and appropriate information so they can make healthy choices in regards to their social interactions, behaviors, and relationships,” said Chicago Public Schools CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett in a statement.

“By implementing a new sxual health education policy, we will be helping them to build a foundation of knowledge that can guide them not just in the pre-adolescent and adolescent years, but throughout their lives,” she continued.

According to the Chicago Public Schools website, the new policy was developed by the Chicago Public School Office of Student Health and Wellness (OSHW). The Chicago Public Schools website said that since June 2012, OSHW has been in consultation with various stakeholder groups for feedback and recommendations in developing the policy.

“Among the participants were Mikva Challenge, Chicago Department of Public Health, Planned Parenthood of Illinois, University of Illinois Chicago, Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health and CPS high school students,” the website said.

CPS said that the policy, which replaces the district’s 2008 Family Life and Comprehensive Sxual Health Education Policy,“will set more modern standards” for instruction for their students at all grade levels. Younger students will receive family life instruction that was also in the 2008 policy.

“For K-4 students, instruction will center on anatomy and physiology, reproduction, healthy relationships and personal safety,” the website said.

“For example, younger students in this group will focus on the family, feelings and appropriate and inappropriate touching while students in fourth grade will learn about puberty, including the physical, social and emotional changes that accompany it, and the causes and transmission of HIV infection,” it added.

“For older children in grades 5-12, instruction will include information appropriate for each grade level on human reproduction, transmission and prevention of HIV/AIDS and other sxually-transmitted infections (STIs), healthy decision-making, sxual orientation and bullying, and contraception, including abstinence,” the website read.

At least two teachers from each school will be designated as sxual health education teachers.

CPS said that the policy “conforms to the Mayor’s Healthy Chicago public health agenda” and aligns with and supports priorities in President Obama’s HIV/AIDs strategy.”

Oh no. We wouldn't want kids to know about that.

Sx education -- including what is appropriate and what is not -- is the realm of the parents, especially when dealing with 5-year old children.

These programs are merely a tool for public educators' indoctrination of our nation's youngest children with the idea that same-sex "parents" ["family"] and same-sex relationships are normal.

Further, based on the public record, educators have no idea what is -- and what is not -- "inappropriate touching"...particularly, as applied to their own interactions with students. Just peruse the "hey now" files.

All too many parents are willing to cede their parental responsibilities to the state. The results of their negligence fill our daily headlines.

Can I get a "hey now" on this story?
Whata know....Ole Obama's hometown fisting state approves a "hands on" approach at teaching sex ed before the kids learn to color. You kids need to know about clams and scuttle-holes before them pesky A.B.C's.
Step back in the coat room for extra-credit,(Obama's goonion crew incites), while I explain the birds & the bees, which may peck and sting a lil at first..., But don't bother to bring this up at the P.T.A. meeting, children...This is a hush-hush assignment.

Did you miss the last line of the article?

The best possible method to prevent/decrease transmission of the HIV/AIDS virus is to instruct against the behaviors associated to it.

Time to man up and put the big boy pants on, folks. We can do this.

I know it's hard to even think about stuff related to s-e-x without getting all giggly and sweaty, but c'mon, it's time to grow up and act like adults, at least in front of the children.

Kids need to know (and will readily ask) about stuff like how and why boys and girls are different. And they need to know from trustworthy adults how to distinguish between good and bad touching (so they are not vulnerable to the adults who are gonna run a game on them about how special they are and how this is just gonna be our little secret and nobody will believe you anyway if you tell). But the time they are old enough to understand what the ribbons are for, they should know enough about how HIV is spread (and how it is NOT) to stay safe and set their minds at ease.

And somewhere along the line it's gonna be a good idea to have a notion about where babies come from.

These aren't big scary things. And they shouldn't be confined to some awkward bedroom talk that happens once at age 13 or so.

And yes, tip, they are going to notice that some people have a different kind of family--not just gay and straight, but widows and widowers, divorcees, step-families, adoptive families--the whole nine yards. They're not going away just because we pretend they're not there.

Not a competition, tip.

Consistent information should be coming from multiple sources.

BTW--I gotta point out that your notion of parental responsibilty includes hiding from your kids (assuming you have some) the reality that everyone doesn't look just like them, think just like them, and neither does everybody's family.

Now, I call that irresponsible. Lying to kids is not responsibile behavior.

I would imagine that you also condone bullying kids who are different at school and elsewhere, too, don't you?

My notion of parental responsibility includes teaching my children moral behaviors within relationships ordained by natural law.

Homosexual behaviors are specifically excluded from that category.

Of course, I do not condone bullying of kids who are "different."
That fact, however, does not preclude my instructing my own children that certain behaviors are not natural or moral.

This outraged thread is because public schools are teaching young children about “the family, feelings and appropriate and inappropriate touching"?

Helping give younger children the information and agency to avoid inappropriate touching or the outlet to report inappropriate contact.

With a vast amount of inappropriate activity happening within family and extended family contexts, giving children the information they need and a safe place to discuss their concerns independent of these contexts seems like a pretty great idea.

As an aside, how much do I love all the people on here talking about natural law? I generally hear it talked about in pretty abstract, rather boring terms if it does come up. To have folks conflate 'natural law' with 'what I think should be recognized as right' is charmingly down to earth and incredibly interesting.

you know all about gay sex; but can't perform simple math equations.

your employment skill sets are perfect fro a gay porn star.

working as a gas station attendant is way too lofty a position for you, as making change is over your head.

I prefer private schools where I am in control of my children's education.

your union school experiment has worked out terrible.

If a school has an average class size of 30 children before a tax levy fails and then has to increase class size to 45 children, by what percentage did class size grow?

You really are the most fun of them all.

why did the tax levy fail?

the people have spoken; and want 45 kids in a class.
in the class size of 30, could any of the children pass the proficiency test?

growing the class size 50% is potentially bringing talent to the classroom; and cutting dead weight.

Did you realize in college it is possible for 500 in a class? Some schools even more.
and you are paying to be there; and it is not mandatory.

45 in a classroom is 5 short of what should be considered normal.
