Groid fatigue is coming on strong in KC

And Indianapolis has groids driving businesses away from its malls. Did groids ruin City Center here?
And to reader: butt out with your suburban mall excuses.

I blame Columbus police just as much. Had they delt with the thuglets instead of.letting them "free range" City Center would still be there.

[QUOTE who="hey now the beloved"... And to reader: butt out with your suburban mall excuses.[/QUOTE]

I'm guessing the bankruptcy closing of Jacobsonís, and loss of Lazarus and Kaufmann's/Macy's isn't open for discussion either?

Good points on the bankruptcies, but why no other firms venturing into the void? Those were expanding economy times...

You'd have to ask the Taubman Company, the Mills Corporation (along with General Motors), Simon Property Group, Nationwide Realty Investors, the Capitol South people, Buck Rinehart, Greg Lashutka and Mike Coleman. I suppose you could even ask Mark Pi's Express why they didn't expand as space became available. Pi's was an original tenant and the last to close in 2009. Admit it or don't but Tuttle, Polaris and Easton sucked the life out of City Center, Westland and Northland Malls.

City Center failed b/c it was a bad location more than anything else. Inconvenient to get to, and better options in the burbs.
Easton has Nordstrom and Tiffany's. Polaris had Lord & Taylor and Sale. Who needs City Center, especially when Tuttle was a clone.
Not saying groups not part of the problem ... Maybe less than 20% of it.
City Center was a good location for a living downtown, something Columbus lacks. There is no downtown population to speak of. Outside of work or special events there is no good reason to go downtown. City Center was a big city mall sited in a little city. As long as it was the only show in town (or nearly so) it was great.

Yeah, right. It would have still been here...and been empty. As others have noted, there were other factors that led to the demise of the mall. It had too many high end anchor and specialty stores for its time. Some closed their doors prior to any gang violence. How many malls can a city support? With the opening of Tuttle, Easton and Polaris, this was bound to happen. Although smaller, even Kingsdale and Worthington Square suffered and there were never "thuglets" causing trouble there. Also, this is not a high fashion city. People here don't dress. Many companies have enacted a business casual dress code. We're doing good to maintain the stores and malls we have now. Unless something is painted scarlet and grey and serves food, it's subject to fail.

Tuttle Crossing is the only "mall" I shop. The bus lines don't go there and it has everything I need. It is starting to attract the A-rabs, though.
