When did the Columbus Dispatch stop sending reporters to hound public officials at ODOT and City of Cols Traffic division (or whatever it's called)r??? After reading approx 10 posts recommending the SAME FOokING THING (we need flashing warning lights) you would think a little light bulb would start to glow in the dura mater of those crack reporters sitting around smelling Joe Hallett's farts. Who's up for heading over to ODOT and getting some questions answered. Does the hometown paper do that any more? This carnage is digusting. Hell even the doofusses at Fox28 ran a very decent story on its 10 o'clock news showing file footage of the awful accidents at Rathmell and 23 dating back tp the late '90s.

Sounds to me like the old man pulled out in front of the truck - who was probably screaming through the yellow/red light. The trucks going between 270 & Pickaway County are merciless. They speed & cut in front of the cars on a dime and since they are now able to carry heavier loads they aren't able to stop as quickly as they could otherwise. It's just going to get worse with the expansion of the intermodal @ Rickenbacker. This area of 23 should be monitored more to make sure ALL the drivers are obeying speed limits.

it doesn't take rocket scientist to solve this problem!
MY GOD!
(1) Enforce the speed limit!
(2) NO TURN ON RED SIGN for westbound traffic off Rathmell Rd
(3) For southbound traffic turning east off Rt 23. onto
Rathmell Rd. a green light arrow with all other traffic having a red light.
(3) Put up the yellow flashing lights ahead of the intersection to warn motorists in both directions.
That there is a traffic light ahead.

This may not solve the problem completely.
I pray it will help.
According to this article 11 people have been killed at this intersection in a 12 year span.

How smart do you have to be?
Why do they need a some ?? engineering and planning employee to see if any improvemnts can be made.
I am a high school graduate.
I figured it out after last accident in November
Pay me to see if improvements can be made.
Are they freaking that STUPID?.

something needs to change i knew the person in this fatal accident and then got in to looking at all the past fatal accidents at the same inter section and there is lots of things that can be done. because oviously what is there now is NOT WORKING. the thing is how many more of these accidents will it take before someone takes charge.

It wasn't that long ago that a family of five were killed turning east from southbound 23. ODOT definitely needs to put yellow flashing lights along 23 and absolutely no turn on red on Rathmell. If a truck going north that is speeding along 23 is almost blind to someone stopped trying to turn north off of Rathmell.

There was another fatal crash close bu there about two months ago.
I travel that area at least once a week.
Going back and forth to Circleville from Columbus.
Mostly everyone speeds on RT 23
In this particular arear it is a 50 mph zone.
I can't go under 60 mph if I don't want to get ran over.
What is it going to take to control this intersection or all of RT 23 South of Columbus to Portsmouth?
It needs to be converted to a freeway. But there's no money for such things these days.

We need FLASHING warning lights when the signal is about to change. Except for the lights in the WalMart area at Circleville, every single light between here and Chillicothe and beyond has the flashing warning lights. When people get up here, they expect to see the same...... and when it doesn't flash, they don't slow down.
Maybe we should add flashing warning lights to tell us the existing warning lights are about to flash to tell us the street light is about to change..........and maybe we add great big neon pointers above all of the flashing warning lights for the warning lights for the street light that is about to change.........and a horn....we need a horn.

I know the driver of the truck. He says his light was green and the car just ran the light with no warning. He is receiving threating phone calls brom a brother of the victim. He says he has friends with the police dept. that can take care of the situation!
The truck driver does'nt drink or do drugs. He submitted a drug test to prove it. He is a family man and goes to church. He also is very upset. I hope when its all concluded the brother will understand everbody grief, and the truck driver is praying for the family.

I live close to there and that intersection gives me the creeps!I will drive a few miles out of my way to go around it.Several years ago a whole family died there and over the years there have been so many deaths at that intersection. It seems like they could do something to make it safer.Obetz and High St.is another bad intersection an out of towner crashed into me there about four years ago.I cursed him all the way to the emergency room the medics threatened to tape my mouth shut.
