Agreement reached on future of Jesus portrait in Jackson schools

Jul 12, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: The Columbus Dispatch

The controversy over a portrait of Jesus that hung for decades in a southern Ohio high school apparently didn't end in April when the district took the portrait down.

Those are op-ed pieces.

You do know the difference between fact and opinion, right?

Maybe that is your basic problem here...

Anyway, your articles made me laugh, and frankly, that's pretty much all they are good for.

If this is the kind of information on which you base your opinions, it's not hard to see why you are so, so wrong about so, so many things.

Maybe.
It's typical Dispatch News Group reporting so who knows.
Boils down to this. Taxpayer dollars are being used to subsidize religion (providing facilities for the club and for display of the picture.) Take it to a church, where it belongs.(There, of course, is another taxpayer subsidy, but we'll talk about that later.)

If they didn't break any constitutional laws, then why did they agree to take the picture down, to avoid court? Are you dense? Your interpretation of the 1st amendment is different than the highest courts, this makes you wrong, and separation of church and state does indeed exist.
Do you even understand what Hitchen's is saying? Based on your 1st comment, I don't think you do, which would explain your ignorance on interpreting constitutional law.
Show me where it is in the Constitution. Quote it. Cut and Paste it.

Because SCOTUS makes a ruling does not make it correct.

Do you agree with their ruling on Property Rights and Eminent Domain. They ruled that local governments can take your property and then let OTHER private enterprises buy the Land etc. for their use use NOT the local governments because the local government will receive increase tax revenue. Was that the meaning of Eminent Domain for over a hundred years?

Do you believe their ruling was Constitutional?

It is constitutional by definition if the SCOTUS says so, there is no higher court.

You seem to have a very superficial understanding of the law, or should I say, an ideological one.

We are Americans, and we have the right to disagree.
More than half disagree with Obamacare, thus changes are being made on it.

To complete my response.

Yes Hitchens was an Atheist, I'm completely aware but quotes, sayings etc. can have multiple meanings and applications.

Why did the Pilgrims come to America?

Religious persecution has always been and will always be. Some of the earliest forms of it took place in the 1600s when the Pilgrims left England to escape it. However, not only did the Pilgrims come to America to escape religious persecution but they also came for the same reason that millions of others have done since then. They came to find refuge. America has always represented freedom and so not only was it their desire to seek freedom for religion but freedom in every sense of the word. So taking it on face value this country was founded on the securing of individual freedom and tolerance of others. Isn't it ironic.......“How dismal it is to see present day Americans yearning for the very orthodoxy that their country was founded to escape.”

Examples: I was surprised by the orthodoxy of her political views.
He rejected the orthodoxies of the scientific establishment.

Why did they take the Portrait down? To avoid years in court, the expense of fighting it.

Hope I didn't confuse you.

If you can enlighten me show me in the Constitution the powers given to SCOTUS.

In what court can I go to change a ruling by SCOTUS?

My understanding of the Law is a Constitutional one not an accepted practice.

I have asked the question many times as how a law is passed by a 5-4 vote in the Supreme court. Did the 4 dissenting votes change their minds? Of course not.
I'm not sure without searching it, but I think the Lemon Test was another 5-4 vote which has caused all the havoc with they SCS since and should be undone.

But it won't be, not even by Darth Scalia.

Now THAT'S funny. Especially since more studies show a decline in religion and a growing number of agnostics and atheists. It's even said the religious will be the minority by 2050 at the current rate of deconversion.

Because a group of scared people thought their god would smite the nation if it wasn't mentioned. How's that working for everyone? Maybe we should to take it off and see if things improve.
