I love books on the civil war. There are so many brutal stories, it breaks my heart.
I used to go to civil war enactments, in Burton. They dressed in costume, down to their undies. It's a great sight to see..
I have a hat from a Yankee soldier and some pics.
You should see the Civil War camp/cemetery here in Columbus, Camp Chase. They say it is haunted. There is a grieving widow who haunts the cemetery. Every Memorial Day they have a historical gathering, complete with Civil War era costumes and hold a memorial.

Seems there are numerous haunted sites in Ohio? I have a book I bought in Burton( Amish country) and it lists all the weird places, folklore and tales.
There has to be something to entities.......I do believe, I do believe , I do believe......

I'm strange, I love cemeteries. Maybe part of the genealogy bug I've had or the history or the interesting monuments I love or the fact that I grew up nearly next to one and my ex husband's grandmother was the caretaker of that one. I never get creeped out in them. I've had odd thing happen when in them that I could never explain, always harmless, but odd nonetheless. Still, it's one of "those" interests I generally don't talk about, most people think it's way weird.

There's a beautiful cemetery, Lakeview, near Cleveland's Little Italy, where president Garfield and his wife's monument stands so tall and beautiful..if you go to the top of the tower you can see miles of scenery and Lake Erie. I like it better in the fall when the trees are in their glory...that's the best time to do it.
Many famous people are buried there. In the spring they have a tulip tour and it's just beautiful when all the trees are blooming. There's also a chapel with gold and mosaic tiles in side. It's something you have never seen.gorgeous.
I too, like cemeteries. When I visit my mom and realities , I find it so serene and calming! except for the cemetery in New York which gave me the chills. Civil War soldiers and families are buried there. I guess knowing the history and how brutal the war was, it just takes me aback.

I'll check it out if I'm ever in Cleveland. I like strolling the cemeteries too, my imagination sort of runs away--"how did this person live, what was going on his his life?" The one in Toledo that I mentioned, I know the history of really well (nearly all my family is there, in-laws caretakers, I walked through it coming home from school, etc.). I look at some of the monuments, see the dates, and relate it to history: guy died in 1918--wow, he died young, it was the year NW Ohio hit really hard with flu epidemic, that lady was born 1850--I know she was an immigrant (Toledo wasn't even a city then)--that sort of thing. My mind wanders. It's relaxing to me. I'll take photos of the interesting monuments, too. Some of the inscriptions are interesting.

Thanks for the info.

I Dont understand the Southerners
why have a gray uniform ?
did they not have fashion designers in the south ?
All that effort to try and win a war but no thought into how they looked ! maybe that's why they lost no pride in their appearance
The yankees had a nice blue uniform
hell even the Brits had a nice red one
I Do like their flag i will give them that.

You may be right about the drab color of the men's uniforms, BUT, the WOMEN LOOKED BEAUTIFUL IN THEIR DRESSES, and they always wore ornaments in their hair, wether it was flowers, a net, or fancy bejeweled combs.
Manners were flourishing in the South, proper etiquette a must, and beautiful Southern plantations, except for one nasty thing. They all owned slaves to work the fields and the masters, bred with the female slaves.
Even Thomas Jefferson , and many others of his class did the same.
Thank god for Abraham Lincoln, and a few others who did something about it..well this is another chapter in US history........

Oh yes the dresses were beautiful and the ladies real pretty
Sometimes i like to dream that the South won and i married a real southern gentleman who loved me and took good care of me and we lived in a big house with servants and we had lots of rich friends
Who would come to all the big balls and parties at our house and i had lots of pretty dresses and everyone called me Miss Tazzie i know its a crazy dream but when you live in Greenfield with only the bed bugs and mice for company the mind tends to wonder what if the south had won ?

as long as you continue just dreaming about it, it never has any possibility of occurring.
