Now here's a perfect snapshot of "post-racial" America. Here you ahave a time honored classic like the story of Little Orphan Annie and some modern producers who want to do a remake. They want to cast the lead characters as African American descendants and the racists on twitter and other spots online are outraged. Now, Annie is a FICTIONAL character, but that doesn't matter to our modern day KKK. They see her as a caucasian person and that's ALL that they'll see. This is DEFINITIVE for the race problems we have today. We've got a limited few with a limited scope on what is or is not white/black or otherwise and itf your definitions don't fit with their stereotypes, then EVERYBODY ELSE is wrong but them. It's sad. It's pitiful...and it's America .....
==========
Annie remake: casting of black lead provokes negative Twitter posts
http://www.theguardian.com/film/shortcuts/201...

Name: Annie.

Age: 11.

Appearance: Headstrong, smartass, black.

Hold on a minute. Annie's not black. She's a little blonde Swiss girl who lives in the mountains. That's Heidi, you idiot. Annie's the little red-headed girl who looks like Sideshow Bob.

But this new version of Annie doesn't look anything like Sideshow Bob. That's because in this remake she is being played by Oscar-nominated actor Quvenzhané Wallis.

Oh, her! She was great in Beasts of the Southern Wild. Yes, she was. And, provided you're into musicals about toothy orphans singing about tomorrow, she'll probably be great in this too.

Well, super. Fantastic, isn't it? Everyone's agreed that Wallis is a fabulous actor, and that she will do a great job as Annie even if the film seems slightly beneath her. Wow, this is an unusually short Pass notes. Well done, everyone.

Hold on. Hold on, what? I don't like the sound of this.

Have you checked to see what the internet thinks about this? No. I can take a look if you like, but I can't imagine that people will be… oh. Oh goodness.

Found some racists? No, definitely no racists. They can't be racist, because all their tweets start with variations of: "I'm not a racist, but …"

Do you have any examples? There's "Not to be racist, but since when is Annie black?!". And "I'm not racist but first the karate kid then Johnny Storm and now Annie!" And, obviously "I'm not racist or anything ... But this new Annie movie is all mixed up!!! Annie is WHITE!!!!!!"

Really? People are legitimately getting worked up about the race of a girl in the lead of a kid's film? This is the internet. People would get worked up about oxygen if you let them.

How depressing. Whatever would Daddy Warbucks say? There is no Daddy Warbucks any more. He's been replaced by Will Stacks, a telecommunications billionaire with mayoral ambitions, played by Jamie Foxx.

It's their money and I don't care how they make the film or if they break even, lose money or make a bundle. Who cares?

I will say this, I often take a little girl (4) to the movies and she's allowed to bring a friend.(Much easier to handle two then one. lol) She always invites Taylor, who is in her Pre-K and is black. Most of the kids cartoons and movies don't have black characters and I am very aware of it as I watch them with the two girls. I feel that more diversty is needed in the characters created children.

There is Dora the Explorer, Dora is hispanic, a cartoon much better for children then Spongebob. And the children learn a little Spanish.

LMAO
WOP?
Hey watch it spook!
They remade Peabody and Sherman.....a must see for those who watched back then....a-hem!

The characters are portrayed in any movie, book, as the creator, writer, or director sees it.
Plays on broadway are always written in the eyes of the playwrite, and usually are never like they original.that's why they're called creative.

Another thing is if you don't like what's showing, don't go....simple as that.
More and more integrated plots in movies, books, and TV are the rage today.

Problem is how to conjure a black anywhere near the industriousness required of a Daddy Warbucks. Maybe they could take creative license and make him into a king of ruble and rats and refuse piles in Camden.
