Maybe I can drive through Mt. Sterling again without gettting pulled over for a petty equipment violation. Whats worse than small town cops? Small town auxillary cops. Its just like Harrisburg oh the Mt. Sterling Chief of Police (Mike McCoy) was Chief of Police in Harrisburg also. What does he do that makes him worth $40,000 plus anyway? Stand on the street corner drinking his coffee looking like a dork in his uniform and goatee.
The Sheriff's office has had Mt. Sterling covered practically full time anyway since Deputy McMcurry-Sparks hangs there her whole shift.

I have concerns on why this story was even ran for public viewing. I live on the outskirts of this small town and this has to be one of the dumbest stories ever ran. Now that everyone outside this small town knows about the cut back it is like a invite for criminals to come in this town and rob ,rap or do what ever they please and not get caught. Our back up would take 30 or more min. to even get to us. They would have plenty of time to get away. So thanks to who ever ran this story i feel like my family is a little less safe then before and when the crime rate increases i might need to look for a safer place to live.

Good.I'm glad they got laid off. They sit and wait to pull people over for going 2 or 3 miles over the speed limit. They would sit at the Showa plant at shift change and nail people.Glad they are out of work.

Spriggs you will be fine. Kelly McSparksMurray spends most of her shift in the village. She/he will make sure everyone is safe.

Forget Sterling you are getting what you deserve for no town planning or development! No School - No Pool - soon maybe no Post Office .... at least you will still have pizza and drugs.

Mt Sterling's mayor and most of the council are trying to get a RITA tax increase to 1.5%(from 1%). I love the village, but there's no denying its been in a long-term economic decline. Maybe we should re-evaluate the mayor's salary and benefits, along with the rest of the village emloyees.

I'm not too concerned about the police force being cut.

They were nothing more than a speed trap anyway. If your car looked newer than their police car you usually got a ticket.

thats so true she is always around town, and we could hire her husband back too. he could take care of all the teenagers ( as long as they are 13-15 year old girls) he could drive that POS dodge he always tries to be tough in when people go fishing near his house.

everytime you go fishing near the POS house in the river he will come out there with a gun and watch you like he is some kind of bada$$. he got fired from mt sterling due to him harrassing young girls, and his fridge..i mean wife is now a useless sheriff who just drives around the town in a sheriffs patrol vehicle. hes real tough until you confront him then he takes off and then follows you after you leave.

NBC Channel Six reported today at noon that the village is keeping one full time police officer (the village marshall) for $40K a year. Why doesn't he just accept $20K a year part-time job and hire back a part-time officer? The village marshall is only a part-time job anyway. Anywhow, the village is out of money. If you look at last month's council meeting minutes, they are still unable to pay back $18K from last years bills.

Well if you think your going to get better coverage from the S.O. think again. Thay have 2 deputies a shift for the whole county. I guess dep Sparks and stone both former Mt Sterling cops can come back and work since they live in town. But neither of those guys were worth anything when the worked here, so I can't think things have changed much. Besides the sheriffs office is a bunch of untrained retards that can't get jobs at a real department. Good luck people your screwed either way!

No need for village level government to exist any longer. All it does is add another layer of taxes and regulations in all reality is nothing more than theft disguised as government.

Tdog you sound bitter. Maybe your right. I remember dep stone chasing that other child malester down and crashing him in a tree by the fork on 56. almost killed him. the tree died to then got him locked up for a few dozen years. so whatever he did not do i think that makes up for it. as far as the sheriffs office i know a few and most of the paid guys are good at there job. the volunteer guys are 50/50 but they are volunteers. i heard they have 4 or 5 on a shift now. who cares though as long as you do not break the law.you can always call the state patrol for help
