Now Booker T is the voice of the "Everything I needed to learn I learned in slavery" crowd, huh Tippy?
You really are wacka wacka.

Face it, you can't refute his statement. No one can.

Booker T. Washington wisely realized the opportunities available to free blacks who refused to perpetuate their servitude by wallowing in historical wrongs.

No, the proper analogy would be providing a field trip for a natural sciences/biology class to the Nashville zoo, but not to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, because time and monetary constraints limit what the schools can provide as far as off campus educational opportunities in that particular subject matter.
Ever the victim, aren't you Tippy?
woof
ROFLMAO at your stupidity.
Since when are a city zoo and a national park represented as equals in any field?

Because Papa and Momma wrote that sentence for her after consulting with their peeps down at the local tavern. "F".

So you really think that Booker T was singing the praises of slavery in that quote?

So fascinating.

Other notable quotes of Booker T. Washington:

"Character, not circumstances, make the man."

"Nothing ever comes to one, that is worth having, except as a result of hard work."

"No greater injury can be done to any youth than to let him feel that because he belongs to this or that race he will be advanced in life regardless of his own merits or efforts."

"If you can't read, it's going to be hard to realize dreams."

Bravo, Bob.
More people need to have a strong sense of maintaining their culture and faith. And they should be encouraged to actively transmit these values to their children and the reason for doing so.

Let others do the live and let live stuff.

Jokes aside, I don't have anything against other groups but they ARE different people and no amount of secular whitewashing is going to change that. Strong Christianity = personal and familial success and this is proven time and time again. Any parent who doesn't teach that to their children and demand that of any mates they bring into the family is delinquent in their duties.

There was a time and day when a Christian wasn't allowed to marry a non-Christian. That went by the wayside in many cases over the last 50 years, but the original tradition was 100% correct for the reasons I state.

And that is the exact point of this discussion; however, the Christan-bashers are content to ignore the situation because it damages Christians. Further, they refuse to admit that, had the situation been otherwise, they would have launched an epic screechfest against the "Bible thumpers."

Then show me the same for Halloween...keeping in mind that most Protestant churches utterly reject the very idea of it and that in Catholicism it is the eve of All Saints Day and nothing more.
You disappoint me more every day. That post was something I would have expected from Black Racist of Brooklyn.
Well, you could start by going to Pinterest for ideas on decorating for church Halloween parties and then take it from there. WA is right. They do often mix things up.

Yes, I agree with that 100%

I also think it is far more important what the parents teach in the home, and parents need to be given the tools to actively transmit their values to future generations. I don't know all the ins and outs of religion, but I do know enough that I sought reasonably religious women out in my younger days and kids in the family are actively taught to do the same thing today.

That doesn't just happen by itself. A parent needs to take the initiative and make sure it happens.

It also doesn't matter what the school says. They can teach whatever they want. An appropriate amount of disdain at home is all it takes to send the right message to your children.

No one is praising what happened, and while history should not be forgotten it's 2013. Why is it that the Jews who hid in the forest and eventually made it to the United States were able to move on, while others aren't? Do you ever wonder how some people make it despite the most horrendous circumstances, and others can't ever get past it? Any shrinks care to chime in? Not to judge, but it is curious how the brain works.

You quite clearly implied that Mr. Washington intended to state that because of slavery, black people in America were "better off".

If that's not what you meant, take charge, and tell us all why you posted it.

Stop beating around the bush.

Well here's a crazy thought:

I wonder if entrenched policies and mores of institutional, governmental, cultural, and societal racism detrimentally affected different groups of people in different manners and to widely varying degrees over a couple of centuries.

Crazy thoughts, I know.
