Bill to end CommonCore in Ohio if it passes.
I hope it does, because the CC is a horrible idea and teaching method!

MAYBE this can be the thread that stays and we can make it our own....

Too many complaints from educators, parents, students and rightly so!
It's a horrible implementation to educating kids.
Should never have been involved! We are not the only state getting out of the program.....many more already have and we will be soon! Hopefully.

Just because you think it's great doesn't reflect what many, many others feel.
The protest against the CC is so great that a Bill was written....

You cannot read, can you?

"NEA has been called upon to oppose the standards. It would be simpler just to listen to the detractors from the left and the right who oppose the standards. But scuttling these standards will simply return us to the failed days of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), where rote memorization and bubble tests drove teaching and learning. NEA members don’t want to go backward; we know that won’t help students. Instead, we want states to make a strong course correction and move forward."

Chicago Teachers Union joins growing national opposition to deeply flawed Common Core Standards

Common Core’s origins can be traced to the 2009 Stimulus Bill which gave $4.35 billion to the federal Department of Education which created the “Race to the Top” competition between states. In order to qualify for funding, the states needed to adopt Common Core with the added incentive that participating states would be exempted from many of the more onerous provisions of George Bush’s “No child left behind” program.

“I agree with educators and parents from across the country, the Common Core mandate represents an overreach of federal power into personal privacy as well as into state educational autonomy,” said CTU President Karen Lewis, a nationally board certified teacher.“Common Core eliminates creativity in the classroom and impedes collaboration. We also know that high-stakes standardized testing is designed to rank and sort our children and it contributes significantly to racial discrimination and the achievement gap among students in America’s schools.”

Don't confuse Duke with the reality that teachers don't like common core. He only sees what he wants.

Let's hope the Ohio lawmakers pass this Bill to rid of this outrageous form of teaching! We, OHIO! have surplus monies and don't need to be bribed into doing what the rest of the flock does!

What I see are people like you who cannot discern the difference between the head of the Teachers Union expressing dissatisfaction with the implementation of new standards and the same person expressing satisfaction with the overall scheme of developing nationwide standards.

we need to immediately raise our standards above current mediocre standard.

Excellence is the only standard.

Education ends poverty.

Every citizen of the USA should be educated on the public dime k-12, and be able to earn 2 years of vocation studies or 2 years of college or Associate Degree. Then if student wants more education it is their dime.

What I see from people like you is nothing but words....my above comments are not political and should have been our standard always.

My comments weren't the least bit political either, and strangely, you seem to agree with what I pointed out but don't even realize it.

Dennis Van Roekel, president of the National Education Association, is speaking out against the federal requirement that all students in third through eighth grades take standardized tests in math and reading this spring — even though the only tests available in many states aren’t aligned to the new Common Core curriculum.“I don’t think anyone can rationally defend spending millions of dollars… to give a test that doesn’t reflect what you’re teaching,” Van Roekel told Morning Education.“Any rational person would say that’s stupid. That’s crazy.”
