I guess they also had some kind of events for all the people attending the Arnold classic, and that was another reason why it was packed.

My night at the casino got me interested in reading about the casinos and here's what I've learned:

-Columbus seems to have a better bunch of acts than Toledo, comparing the acts on their websites.

-One of the reviews of Cleveland dings them because they don't have any acts there. Since the Cleveland Casino is in the old Higbee's Department Store, just think about the logistics. It would be hard to have a band playing on the sixth floor of the Downtown Lazarus and have everybody enjoy the act. But since the Columbus Casino is laid out like a Walmart (250,000 square feet on a single level), that makes it more conducive to a concert in the round which can be "enjoyed" (not that Morris Day was enjoyable)... I thought it was too loud, though.

-Scioto Downs actually generates more revenue per slot machine than the Casino does.

-I was in the Arena District last week, and I got to check out the new government hotel. There was some kind of a cheerleading convention there and we were talking to people from Canada who brought their kids down.

-Based on what I saw at the casino, and the upscale housing and all, I agree with Coleman and the Wolfes that that the Casino would not have been good in the Arena District just because of the culture clash among the Walmart types at the casino, and the more upscale and family crowd they're trying to bring Downtown. I always thought the Jeffrey Mining site would have been okay, though.

-Cleveland does a little better in sales than the Columbus Casino does, but doesn't have any competition yet. Surprisingly, Columbus seems to be the better gambling market overall. Both Columbus casinos generate more than the Cleveland casino does.

-I wasn't so impressed with tbe buffet as sidekick was. For 24.99, you could have a real meal at a restaurant, and the stuff on the buffet lines didn't look very tasty for some reason to me.

Bottom Line: The casino was better than I expected, but it is what it is. It is a vice (a $3 vice for me, far more expensive vice for others), and it attracts a wide range of people from rich to not the best people in society. Not to mention the prostitution and the other things associated with it.

I was against the casino at first, but now that it's here it's just another entertainment option and I don't think it's so bad. But that's where it belongs, on the west side, isolated from everybody.

Still surprised how busy it was. Those people for the most part didn't look like the types that would be clubbing, so I don't think anybody else is losing business because of the casino. Restaurants might be losing, but they mostly didn't look like the crowd that goes out to Brio to eat.

Don't be so dismissive. A lot of that is money from out of town that goes directly into the local consumer economy without any skimmed off in taxes.

As I tried to point out in an earlier post, the clubbing types are still putting on their makeup at 10:30. If you go again on a Friday and Saturday night and stay till at least midnight, you will see plenty of hotties.

BTW, there are very few hotties over 40, mostly they are in their 20s. And that group goes out LATE. And my guess is that they come from all over town, some of them dress way too nice for westside girls.

I have not seen any obvious signs of prostitution, other than the strip club across the street.

It's a little past my bedtime these days, but one day we may check it out!

The gang bangers are a little much for me, but I have no problem being among the Walmart crowd. It just takes away all of the illusions of there being any glamour associated with a casino. I look at it as being in one of those old Funway Freeway locations with the video games, but for adults.

Prostitution always happens when there's drinking and money being won. I won't have that problem because I always lose, hence the $3 gambling limit.

Just remember, 1100 video cams, lots of casino security, plus Columbus cops on the weekend nights. Doesn't mean nothing will happen, but I think they are being aggressive about preventing trouble...for now. We shall see 5 years from now.

If you want casino glamour, you need to be in the high limit slots or high stakes table games. The rich don't rub elbows with the Walmart crowd. But with your $3 limit, well, better look at Darla with her three teeth and Bubba in a new light I guess.

I'll have to look for Reality Speaks in the high limit areas, I'm sure he'll be holding forth about all his expensive toys and trips to St. Pair of Dice or wherever, while berating all the scum playing the penny slots.

You're right on target, although i wonder about some of the asian girls throwing $100's on single hands of Blackjack. I've questioned myself about the working girl swag, or if i'm just as Hot as i thought i was.LOL

For one, I went to the buffet during lunch($13.99), which is every bit of that worth. I assumed you were too much of a tightwad to take a chance at winning, but budgeted a free scope at eye candy. Just goes to show, you still lost....Going on a predominately black crowd night.LOL
BTW, You might enjoy the Eddie Money folks more, which is March 30th.

There were a couple of black hotties there, I will admit. Most, like the rest of the crowd, were absolutely NOT.

So you think the mob isn't going into the pockets of some of the local pimps?

Bob, Did you see Arnold while you were there? I know He and his entourage were there. My only reason for asking is I heard from many that He is only 5'7" not the giant you see in the movies.

Unfortunately, I didn't see him. But there were a lot of people lined up to go into the auditorium. I asked what the line was for and that's when I learned that all the Arnold people were there.
