When workers repair broken water mains or service lines, old corroded pipes can potentially shake loose particles containing lead into already-treated water. Approximately 300,000 service lines connect to the Columbus public water system, and about 30,000 of them might contain lead in the municipal-owned section, officials told The Dispatch last week.
