WASHINGTON (AP)— The Russian FSB intelligence security service told the FBI in early 2011 about information that Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the brothers suspected in the Boston Marathon bombings, was a follower of radical Islam, two law enforcement officials said Saturday.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev died in a shootout, and his younger brother was captured alive. They were identified by authorities and relatives as ethnic Chechens from southern Russia who had been in the U.S. for about a decade.

According to an FBI news release issued Friday night, a foreign government said that based on its information, Tsarnaev was a strong believer and that he had changed drastically since 2010 as he prepared to leave the U.S. for travel to the Russian region to join unspecified underground groups.

The FBI did not name the foreign government, but the two law enforcement officials identified the FSB as the provider of the information to one of the FBI's field offices and also to FBI headquarters in Washington. The two officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record about the matter.

The FBI said that in response, it interviewed Tsarnaev and relatives, and did not find any domestic or foreign terrorism activity. The FBI said it provided the results in the summer of 2011. The FBI also said that it requested but did not receive more specific or additional information from the foreign government.

The bureau added that in response to the request, it checked U.S. government databases and other information to look for such things as derogatory telephone communications, possible use of online sites associated with the promotion of radical activity, associations with other persons of interest, travel history and plans and education history.

When the FBI was done with them they should have been put on a plane back to whatever crap hole they came from.

Agree. The FBI interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev and still did nothing despite his trip to Russia and his holy war website. Liberals need to stop being coconspirators with Muslims which allows them to commit in holy war on American soil.

End the refugee program and stop importing terrorists.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev
The surname is interesting to me because it does not seem to be Chechen or Muslim.

-Tsar is the Russian way to spell "Czar", as in Tsar Nicholas.

-"ev" is a common ending you see in the names of American diaspora, both Slavic and Jewish: "off", "ov", "ev", "eff", "iw"

-Mikhail Gorbachev was commmonly referred to as Gorba-chOFF in the media. I don't know if all the examples above are just different ways of spelling the same sound.

Just a wild guess, but with a name like Tsarnev, it sounds like a family that would have been pro-Russian, which means pro-monarchy and pro-Christian? In other words, Russian kulaks.

Sure sounds like it. The family (at least the uncles) are well-spoken and very articulate. In fact, one uncle in Russia threw his nephew out because he couldn't stand is radical Muslim politics.

I know something of this because many members of my own extended family are local apparatchiks and kulaks in some of those countries. People like that typically don't run around waging jihad on others.

Just my two cents.

This passage rings very true, if you ask me.

(Remember kids, I have roots in that part of the world.)

==========

April 20, 2013
Boston Bombing: Did the FBI interview the Tsarnev Uncle to run down the lead of a possible “Armenian” who recently converted to Islam and may have radicalized the older brother?

It is always amazing that people speak to the mainstream media – and then we find out that they were never interviewed by the authorities – even though they appear to have credible information or a valid investigative lead.

“He said there is someone who brainwashed him, some new convert to Islam,’’ Tsarni said.“I would like to stress (the acquaintance was) of Armenian descent.’’ The suspects’ uncle believes the radicalization occurred in the United States, not overseas. Tamerlan Tsarnaev traveled to Russia last year.“It has nothing to do with Russia,(or) with Chechnya, which he had nothing to do with,’’ Tsarni said.“It started here.” <Source>

I would not be terribly surprised that there are others involved.

The bomber's mother was charged with shoplifting $1600 worth of clothing from Lord and Taylor!

Chechens do not hate Americans (except for a few nutcases like the bombers). If anything, they want all the same shyt we have from smartphones to Levi's jeans.

I agree with you folks about the Arabs, though.

Whoever disagreed with this post, you need to go back to school.

Everybody knows the difference between American blacks and their history and culture and black immigrants from, say, Nigeria or Ethiopia which are far more civilized people.

Saying all Muslims hate America is like saying that all blacks are the same.

Chechens, especially a family taking a surname in honor of the Christian Orthodox "Tsar" is not of the same ilk as a disaffected Arab who is part of Al Queda.

Every country in the world is like this country. Tribal behavior only works to a certain degree. You have to understand these distinctions.

While all Muslims don't openly support terrorist, polls indicate that a majority of Muslims want to live under Sharia not the Constitution. Sharia is not consistent with freedom so Muslim need to adapt or leave.
