Toyota Direct Doesn't want to sell cars

Thinking of buying a new or used vehicle? Be advised of how Toyota Direct likes to treat potentially new customers.
On Oct. 28 I inquired about a used vehicle by way of email. Right away the first objective of the person that responded (Melvin) was an attempt to get my phone #. Then he continued to provide me with information regarding the vehicle. At the end of the email he said he wanted to "Earn my business". Oct. 30 and after several email exchanges which also included his used car manager, I informed them that provided it visually checked out and test drove fine that I would like to purchase the vehicle but it would not be until Sat. that I could come to the dealership due to work and the fact I lived 95 miles away. I asked if there was anyway I could put a small deposit down to hold the vehicle. I was told there was not but what they could do is email me if the car had sold so that I would not waste a trip. One of their customer service reps (Candy), said they would be able to hold the car long enough on Saturday morning to give me time to get there so it would not be sold while in route to the dealership. My Sat. appointment was confirmed for Sat. at noon. On Friday at 8:15 AM my appointment was confirmed by Melvin. At 1:13 PM I received another email, once again from Melvin, that the vehicle was no longer on their lot and had been taken to their Honda Marysville location. I immediately contacted Candy and expressed to her my frustration and asked that the manager above the used car manager contact me. She said she would personally walk my # over and that he would contact me. I'm still waiting for the call and it's Nov. 13. I also called the Honda Marysville location. I spoke to one of there used car salesmen (Adam). After explaining what had happened with Toyota Direct he stated it was over his head and he would pass this on to his manager so that perhaps they could do something to make it right. Just like with Toyota Direct, I'm still waiting on their call. After giving them a few days to contact me I filed a complaint with the BBB. This was on Nov. 3. It is now 10 days later and my complaint has not been answered. The negotiated price for this vehicle was $11,700. The price at Honda Marysville is listed at $14,980. Toyota Direct and Honda Marysville is owned by Performance Auto Group LLC. They have other dealerships are:

Remember this when you shop for your next car. Remember what Melvin said in his opening email to me, "I want to EARN your business". I've just demonstrated to you how they will sacrifice a potential customer just to try and make a few extra thousand $$$.
Please share this with everyone you know. And if by chance you know somebody that works at any of these dealerships please let them know so they can pass it along to those involved to read this. It never needed to come to this. I've spent my whole working career in one form of retail or customer service related jobs and can tell you this is a text-book example of how not to "Earn one's business" or keep the business you have.

Should have been there faster with the money if the deal was as good as you wanted. And since you were days away, who says they can't book a more profitable sale while you're 95 miles away and X days out.
Btw, the time you're spending grousing and bellyaching is time lost on another deal…you've proved yourself capable of finding one.

HBN, I wish I could've been there faster with the money but if you noticed I couldn't get there any quicker because of work. You have to do that to be able to make payments. I simply asked if I could put a deposit down to hold it. Some dealerships do allow that. I'm fine with the fact they aren't one that does. I would've been fine if somebody came in off the street and wanted it too. Thing is that didn't happen. No, they thought they could transfer it to one of their other dealerships and make a few thousand more. Which likely will happen in this case. Not my problem some sucker will pay a few thousand more for something than they could've had it for. I guess the fact that they likely would've had a new, happy customer that would've shared with other family and friends the great deal and pleasurable experience isn't as important to them as that extra few thousand. Maybe they figured since I live nearly 100 miles away that I wouldn't likely bring in additional business to them by word of mouth advertising. Truth is, I lived in Columbus for 8 years and still have plenty of friends there. Perhaps they didn't take me serious on my intentions. If they have any doubt they can call Germain Honda and ask if i didn't buy one from them 4 days after the raw deal. Oh and I might add, the level of customer service at Germain......let's just say Toyota Direct could learn more than a thing or two from.

Ol Freddy lost out on a sale from me. The dumb ass salesman would not take cash for no check real cash on a used truck. He insisted he coukd only sell at an agreed price if it waa financed. Drove to Graham Ford and bought a New truck and a used one. They were happier than a state trooper getting a blow job along side the road to take cash.
