That's why there's a new hate crime law now that will make life hell for anyone that goes after these children.

Their names will be all over town here in Newark and every one will know who they are and what they did.(that doesn't already know) I know their names and will help spread the word when both are 18. It would be wise for them to move out of Ohio on the day they turn 18. If they dont, there will be hell to pay. The SCOTUS will not elect to hear this case. Prosecutors have the right to appeal the Ohio Supreme Court decision, but they're wasting our money. These two now know that they got away with it, simply because they are too young to be charged with any crime. But we're not taking any chances in thinking that they will behave themselves. That isn't going to happen.

As someone above mentioned "Witch Hunts" I agree. If you look up these ORC Codes 2907.03 -A5 and -A7, you will find that these are the ANTI stepfather and anti Teacher Laws. There is no defense for them. No matter consensual and adults. Hypothetically: What if.... There was a sexual relationship between a man and a woman in PA, they are living together. He was 30, about 10 years older than she is. He's a college teacher in Ohio, she goes to his school as a student, but they LIVE together in PA. If they go "at it" in Ohio, under A7 he goes to prison for up to 5 years for each time it happens, because they are not married..... She then gets part of the "victims fund" dispersed to her, so she makes money for putting him away. Pretty cool way to make money.. Wonder how many Ohio females actually subsidize their income this way??? Educate yourselves before these laws affect your own families.
This is interesting stuff!! Kinda scary when you think about it.

"These two now know that they got away with it," as posted by Wicked Wanda.

Exactly what did they get away with?

Four years later and "we're not going to take any chances in thinking that they will behave themselves." (again Wicked Wanda) What the hell, lady? Are these two in the midst of a major crime wave that the rest of us don't know about?

Are you related to the prosecutor? Your rant makes as much sense as does his willingness to take this case to the Supreme Court. Get a life.

Seriously? "Juvenile perverts" ?? Just 2 young kids trying to figure out who they are. Leave them alone. And Wicked Wanda, I pray you, your family or friends have never done anything not completely in line with what "society" feels is correct. May you never feel the sting of prejudice like you show here.

I doubt it was after Mass. Probably during a gym class or a health class at the local Middle School.
As for your Catholic bashing, you're not impressing anyone.
There are far more abusive PUBLIC School teachers than priests.

Consider the statistics: In accordance with a requirement of President Bush's No Child Left Behind Act, in 2002 the Department of Education carried out a study of sexual abuse in the school system.

Hofstra University researcher Charol Shakeshaft looked into the problem, and the first thing that came to her mind when Education Week reported on the study were the daily headlines about the Catholic Church.

"[T]hink the Catholic Church has a problem?" she said. "The physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests."

BTW, Latte Thunder, what do you think about sex ed including telling kids that they should talk to their parents before initiating sex? If one of these kids had said, "hey, I really want to have sex with the boy next door", the parents could have decided what to do and this would not be happening. We want to be open with our kids about sex, but it seems we give them a lot of info about it without giving them appropriate boundaries.
I don't see a problem with that... but I also don't see how it relates to this legal issue.

Nonetheless, I think that parents should be concerned if their 11 or 12 year old is engaging in sex--regardless of the gender (or age) of either partner.
I agree, and the parents WERE concerned, the two sets of parents talked to each other than the slightly older boys parents tried to get him help! It never should have been a criminal issue!

Thank You.
Kinda,,,,TRUE.. Everyone needs to research what is really going on. Keep complaining, but let your voices be heard. If anyone knows an offender of this type, you'll understand my points better. Media sensationalizes everything. But the truth is hidden. Has anyone heard about the "George D. Williams" case? NO! This case will hopefully fix the 54% in Tier 3 problem for about 4000 people, and ultimately save tax $$. These kids are a prime example of the Witch Hunts. It's NOT just Licking County,(but they do have a LOT of cases!!) Subscribing to "Convicting someone of a sex offense is good" politics, does not apply to every offense. Legislature needs to address and compare Ohio Laws vs. other States Laws.

scary??
Even KY's version of the 2907.03A5 part clearly states "less than 19 years old." with regard to a step-parent. The 48 other states don't consider it a crime in their state. Ohio, on the other hand does not care about age, or consent. I agree with ANY UNDERAGE, or any blood-relative conduct being illegal. But, if the step-parent is 70 and the step-"child" is 55, it's still illegal in Ohio. It should be enforced with respect to an abuse of Authority, but NO!!!,this is an instant conviction!! This is also the state that has no sibling-sibling conduct law. My kids can have all the kids they want TOGETHER, as long as they don't get married. SAD!! Possibly there's no law because the Legislators have this problem in their families??

p.s. 2907.03 is also a Tier 3 offense, with notification. Legal in pretty much the rest of the world, but a T3 in Ohio. just sayin'...

The 12y.o. offered video games in exchange for sex. That is predatory behavior. This is not "kids will be kids" unless you desire to live on the island described in The Lord of the Flies. Why doesn't sex ed include telling kids about *not* touching other people, describing manipulative behavior (like offering things for sex), and telling kids they have to talk to their parents/guardians about what they want to do sexually before they do it! Because if this kid had come to his parents and told them what he wanted to do to an 11yo, they would not be in this situation.
As trial counsel in this case I want to say... One more time... The 12 year old did not offer video games. The 11 year old asked for them! There is nothing predatory about this boy or his actions. This family could have been ANY good family and it came out because the father wanted to get his son counseling. Children explore. Its has historically been called "playing doctor." It is done with the other children who are around. In this case other boys. It could have just as easily been girls. It does not mean they are or were gay.

Someone ought to investigate this Oswalt person.. see if he lives by his own rules..
See if is is so squeaky clean....
In this case, I say, let him who is without sin cast the first stone...

This oswalt guy should be investigated by a psychiatrist.. see how sane he is....
Even better, investigate those who keep him in his job.. clearly, this guy is insane! Why ruin the lives of these kids for one thing they did 4 years ago..??? omg, where is the Justice in that... what good does it do society to let these rogue prosecutors waste tax dollars on cases like this? Why are they funded?

People like this, this Oswalt person.. who claims to be a Christian, a Methodist.. OMG, I would love to see this guy in church.. praying to God.. singing hymns.. acting all CHRISTIANY.. putting on his little show of being a SAVED PERSON, A CHILD OF GOD... OMG,
What a load of crap!

How on earth can this prosecutor say he is a Christian and treat these little children like stepping stones to his higher PAYCHECK!

I say do a story on this Oswalt person... show some flaws, some errors in HIS life!

Jesus said, Let him who is without sin cast the first stone... I would like to see this Oswalt person under his same rules of judgement.. What does Oswalt have to hide? Why is he so hell bent on ruining the lives of these children? How can the city keep this evil person in office? Truly, the people of that city should have this man examined by a psychiatrist and removed from office. www.cfcamerica.org
