ormer steamrolling NFL running back Christian Okoye isn't The Nigerian Nightmare, according to folks like Deana Holmes. Self-proclaimed witch hunter Helen Ukpabio is.

"Not sure that we need to have this crap where little kids are accused of being witches that need to be prayed over and exorcised," writes Holmes about Ukpabio, who is scheduled to visit Houston from her native Nigeria in mid-March for her "Marathon Deliverance."

Ukpabio is the leader of the Liberty Foundation Gospel Ministries, an African evangelical religious organization that also has centers in Ghana, Cameroon and South Africa. According to the event announcement, Lady Apostle Ukpabio will be in Houston for "12 days of battling in the spirit of freedom."

The Pentecostal cleric claims to have the power to identify and exorcise "witch children" who are possessed by the devil. In her book Unveiling the Mysteries of Witchcraft, she writes, "If a child under the age of two screams in the night, cries and is always feverish with deteriorating health he or she is a servant of Satan."

Ukpabio supporters (and there are a decent amount, especially in West Africa) consider her a servant of God who has helped eradicate spiritual ailments from humankind. Her critics, such as Staise Gonzalez, say that once children are identified as witches, especially in areas where people believe in sorcery, they are tortured and sometimes killed.

"These suspected witches have been treated in brutal and inhumane ways," says Gonzalez, who is organizing 12 days of protest to correspond with Ukpabio's appearance, scheduled from March 14 to March 25.

"Abandoned, isolated and otherwise ostracized from the community, taken to the forest and slaughtered, disgraced publicly, bathed in acid, poisoned, buried alive, chained and tortured in churches in order to extract confession, and murdered," she says.

Ukpabio, the subject of the 2008 documentary Saving Africa's Witch Children, last visited Houston for four days in May 2010. An online petition through change.org is attempting to block U.S. entry to Ukpabio.

(The event location is listed as Liberty Gospel Church. However, there's no address attached to the event announcement. Calls to the contact phone, as well as Glorious Praise Ministries, who helped organize Ukpabio's 2010 stay, were not immediately returned.)

Meanwhile, the Stand Against Helen Ukpabio Facebook page, created three weeks ago by Gonzalez, has nearly 900 likes as of the time this post was published.

Along with the protest, Gonzalez says that there will be a fundraiser with proceeds donated to United Kingdom-based Stepping Stones Nigeria, "A charity that works to combat the atrocities of Ukpabio and others like her by providing these abused children with an education, healthcare, clothing, counseling, refuge and protection," says Gonzalez.

And why do "Christians" support this?

http://voices.yahoo.com/barack-obamas-hate-mo...

Barack Obama has a very big problem in the form of his spiritual advisor and the pastor of his church, the Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. Reverend Wright is a hate monger on the scale of-say-Fred Phelps, the gay hating pastor of the Westboro Baptist Church.

Here is part of the text of one of Reverend Wright's sermons, performed at Howard University, in which Wright raved about a conspiracy theory in which, among other things, suggests that America created the AIDs virus.

"We've got more black men in prison than there are in college. Racism is alive and well. Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run. No black man will ever be considered for president, no matter how hard you run Jesse [Jackson] and no black woman can ever be considered for anything outside what she can give with her body.

"America is still the No. 1 killer in the world.... We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns, and the training of professional killers ... We bombed Cambodia, Iraq and Nicaragua, killing women and children while trying to get public opinion turned against Castro and Ghadhafi ... We put [Nelson] Mandela in prison and supported apartheid the whole 27 years he was there. We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.

"We supported Zionism shamelessly while ignoring the Palestinians and branding anybody who spoke out against it as being anti-Semitic.... We care nothing about human life if the end justifies the means....

"We started the AIDS virus ... We are only able to maintain our level of living by making sure that Third World people live in grinding poverty...."

In another sermon, Reverend Wright suggested that the song "God Bless America" should be substituted with "G-D--- America." Apparently Reverend Wright has forgotten the admonition against taking the Lord's name in vain. He has also suggested that we deserved what we got on 9/11.

The enormous dimensions of Obama's problem is as yet not understood. Jeremiah Wright is not just an obscure campaign advisor (which he is, by the way, for Obama) who spouts off something horrible once and has to be let go a few days later for his sins. Barack Obama and his family have been going to Wright's Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago for years. Obama was married in this church. Obama's children were baptized in it. Obama regards Wright as his main spiritual advisor and inspiration. Obama has been listening to this kind of hate mongering for much of his adult life. Obama has been subjecting his own children to the hate.

We live in an era in which a politician can be excoriated for making a single speech at Bob Jones University. Even more recently, a major candidate for President, Mitt Romney, suffered grief because his religion, Mormonism, is a little bit different from other faiths.

Imagine if it were found out that a white politician were a member of Fred Phelps's gay hating Westboro Baptist Church and regarded Phelps as his spiritual advisor. How is that different than belonging to Reverend Jeremiah Wright's white hating, American hating Trinity United Church of Christ?

Of course it shouldn't be. Barack Obama aspires to become the leader of the country that his pastor and spiritual advisor spews hatred for on a regular basis. While guilt by association can be a troubling thing, Barack Obama has offered little more than mealy mouthed "repudiations" of this or that lunatic raving of Reverend Jeremiah Wright. But Obama has not resigned from the hatemonger's church or repudiated the man. That is really a troubling thing.

tip--you have offered up a skillful mixing of lies, half-truths and truth. For example, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright does NOT (to my knowledge) advocate rewording the song God Bless America to say God Damn America. One of his speeches does urge condemnation of America for wrongs.

And among the wrongs listed there, many are hard to deny. It is hard to deny the role of slavery in building this nation, nor the reality that the likelihood of a young black man going to prison is much higher than the likelihood of finding that young man in college. The US has supported Zionism at the expense of recognizing Palestinians.

We may or may not have deserved the events of 9/11. However, our actions have played a role in the shaping of the events of the world--including the rise of fundamentalism and terrorism. We cannot expect to garner props for being a peacekeeper in the world without acknowledging that such actions often have unintended consequences.

I do not agree that we created AIDs. But I well understand where the willingness to believe such things comes from. It comes from using black people (and poor orphans, prisoners and other powerless groups) for medical research without such a thing as "informed consent" or concern for the impact on individuals.

However, I do not want Rev Wright to become an effective deflection from the very real wrongs being fostered by Helen Ukpabio--with financial support and applause from American Christians.

OMG.

My word choice--"we may or may not"--indicates that I was not expressing an opinion on that topic. And there are many reasons not to express such an opinion. Chief among them is that such value judgments as whether or not anyone deserves their place in history is a far huger topic than I am ready to deal with. Another is that such conversations don't go anywhere.

But--that was an introduction to the following sentences: "However, our actions have played a role in the shaping of the events of the world--including the rise of fundamentalism and terrorism. We cannot expect to garner props for being a peacekeeper in the world without acknowledging that such actions often have unintended consequences."

To suggest that the question of whether or not our country had involvements that might have foretold or even prevented 9/11 has nothing to do with whether any individuals in those buildings deserved the death sentence that they received.

But--go right on ahead. Change the subject. Anything rather than deal with the question of why Americans are supporting the ministries of Helen Akpabio that support the torture and death of children in Nigeria.

And you will do almost anything, accuse anyone, rather than honestly look at whether or not there is something hideous going on that we ought to be concerned about.

Your entire post is mere background noise next to your single sentence concerning 9/11. You are an enemy of this nation, its people and our way of life. I've said it for over a year and now you have confirmed it to even the most gullible and well-meaning who thought that you weren't really all that bad. Well Reader, now they know the truth.
You're a filthy anti-American scum bag.

Reader, you did set yourself up for this. I avoided this thread like the plague, thinking silence on the matter was the best option simply because of the leading question used as a headline. I'm pretty certain the majority of American Christians don't support this woman. The response was over the top.

You care not one bit about AMERICAN children that your Islamist friends murdered and orphaned:

The Children of 9/11: Eight Years Later

Eight years after the September 11 attack at the World Trade Center, the children of 9/11 are still hurting but the feelings of sympathy seem to be waning.

Almost 3,000 children under the age of 18 lost a parent during the 9/11 attack.

The average age of the orphaned 9/11 children is 9 years; some were still in the womb when their father died at the attacks, either as victims on the ground and on the planes or as rescuers.

The ratio of men to women among who died was 3:1, leaving a lot of fatherless children.

8 children died during the attacks, mostly as airline passengers
