A Grandview Heights woman who friends and neighbors say hadn’t been seen for several days was found dead in her apartment late yesterday, and police are investigating the death as a homicide.

Jennifer L. Cooke, 35, was found inside 886 Woodhill Dr. by officers who went to check on her welfare late last night. Police and investigators from the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation remained at the apartment past noon today and removed bags of evidence. Evidence indicated that Cooke, who was found in a second-floor bedroom, might have been robbed, police said.

Neighbors said Cooke had not been seen since Thursday. Her friends have posted information on Facebook asking for anyone with information on her whereabouts in the days before her death to call Grandview Heights police.

Cooke, a clinical research coordinator at Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center, has an 11-year-old daughter, who had been staying with her father when the homicide occurred.

Neighbor Jessica Jones said her mother usually cares for Cooke’s cat when she goes out of town but wasn’t asked to do so recently. Jones said her mother went to investigate last night after noticing that Cooke’s cat had been outside for several days and that her car hadn’t been parked in its usual spot. She found the back door unlocked, saw the apartment appeared to be in disarray, and left to notify police, Jones said.

Some neighbors said the woman’s car was found today at Stevenson Elementary School, 1065 Oxley Rd., which is not far from her apartment. Police confirmed that they found her car at another location but did not say where. The car was impounded to be processed for evidence.

Police said they have no suspects in the homicide, the city’s first in 13 years.
