Who can ever forget how Sheriff Myers handled the whole Hurst debacle.

To quote a Topix comment from Jan. 7th 2010, Tim T wrote the following:

"From my understanding, Hurst's wife was working at the Delaware County Sheriffs Office as a Corrections Officer but former Sheriff Myers fired her when she was pregnant, for that reason. Therefore, to make up lost income, Bryan picked up "Special Duty" details to make up for lost income. Had Sheriff Myers not fired her, he may not have been at the bank that day and may still be alive.

Someone died, in part, because of Myer's INEPTITUDE. That in itself is something that should NOT be rewarded! This should dog him for the rest of his life. Not a good legacy to leave behind.

The Hurst family did not deserve this. But thanks to your actions, this was the end results. Yes, I squarely place the blame of Officer Hurst directly on you. It wasn't a issue of "being in the wrong place at the wrong time". It's an issue of you firing a pregnant deputy. Should have never happened.

Correction: "Yes, I squarely place the blame of Officer Hurst directly on you."

It should read "Yes, I squarely place the blame of Officer Hurst's death directly on you, Myers."

First, I am a lifelong Delaware County resident..Born and lived here for 36 Years.

Al was a good Sheriff, not perfect; but he helped Delaware County through a tremendous growth phase, and ran a good department.

The child pornography accusations were a complete smear campaign by Scott Wolfe that noone deserves, they should hold Wolfe accountable.

As for the Hurst issue, that's an idiotic argument, people are fired and laid off everyday, it doesn't mean I have to choose to do a dangerous job. Every Deputy and PO I know does special duty work. It's unfortunate he died, but its ridiculous to blame anyone but the criminal for his death.

Thank you for bringing up the wrongful firing of Marissa Hurst. Yes, Myers is to blame for her husbands death. She asked for light duty and he denied it, so she ran out of FMLA and was required to return to work a few days after delivering her baby. When she couldnt (DUH!) she was wrongfully fired. An investigation confirmed she was wrongfully fired but no amount of money could make up for her loss.

Myers is wrong to push for millions from taxpayers just because he got some political mud on him during his political tenure. Join the club, big boy. If you can't take the heat and fend off the accusations, don't take the big job. Its a shame I support crap lawsuits like this without choice. I will remember the commissioners approving this come election time.

You people don't know the half of what Al is like. He is corrupt, immoral and bullied his way through many a cover-up. Too bad I was never asked what I know about this man and his sinful and corrupt ways. He was never liked by his officers. How about his bankruptcy and complete moral break down before he was hired as Sheriff? Do some digging folks and you will see he is entitled to our scorn, not our money.

The comment are interesting, and it is clear several of you don't know what your talking about. I am sorry Officer Hurst got killed but as for him being killed because I fired his wife. Officer Hurst had and did work special duty before and after his spouse was fired, his working special duty had nothing do to with the firing. As for the support comments, Thank you. It was best said I did not do everthing perfect, but at least I stood up (used my name) to take the bitter with the sweet during the time I was in public office. I don't know why one response had to bring my in-laws family name into any of this? But I am sure the author had one thought in their life and that was probably it. I do want to thanks the citizens, family and friends that supported me during all of this and I am proud to have served the people of Delaware County. Thank you for chance to serve.

No, that's not how it works on an anonymous message board. Most people are just full of idle talk, and would not act. We just like to defame people from a distance, and without proof. Our rantings and ravings make us feel justified and in control of our own little worlds. Duh! Didn't you know that pigs are just know it all control freaks? They just love to boss people around and threaten, but their resolve is weak.

Ok, so that was a little unfair. There are a few good officers out there. But too many are control freaks with authority issues.

He doesn't deserve a penny. An investigation was opened into porn found on his computer. If someone sued everytime an investigation was opened, and nothing was found, we'd be broke. But pigs would be more careful in what they do. This dirtbag doesn't deserve anything beyond his pension. Remember, he PLEAD GUILTY to a crime he committed while in office. On second thought, maybe he doesn't deserve that pension. Go away Myers. You weren't wanted then, and you're not wanted now.

It's an illustration that we need to abolish elected Sheriffs in Ohio. It is an ancient and outdated tradition that breeds dishonesty, ethics violations, and corruption. Every year 2-5 of these minions get in trouble for abuse of authority, yet they continue to remain in office and get re-elected. Absurd.

I got your back Al. You were a much better Sheriff than Walter "Magnum" Davis III is currently. Local politics can get dirty and you weren't perfect, but who could be in those shoes. The whole kiddie porn thing was ridiculous, isn't a Sheriff who has investigated numerous child porn/pedefile cases supposed to have that evidence to convict them? Anyway, I think $125,000 is lowballin' it, especially since its coming from a liability insurance fund that 68 counties pay into. Wish we had you back as Sheriff instead of this ex-Statie nazi we got now.
