The accident occured at 4:45 PM Tuesday, the man was from Columbus, and his family hadn't been notified as of 2:52 AM Wednesday? Was his family out of town or are the police that inept?

Not everyone has their name, address and phone number written on the waistband of their underwear like you.

Geeze, can you believe that the car flipped. I wonder if that means the driver was following the speed limit, attentive to the traffic and road conditions and then - suddenly - the car just decided to flip over???

The dearth of information in these on-line articles always amaze me.

How can it possibly take FOUR HOURS to investigate and clean this up? How much gasoline and how many person-hours of time were wasted as a result?

And please don't confuse my respect for the living as disrespect for the dead.

That was total disrespect for the dead regardless of your last sentence. Any clue how long it takes to free a person from wreckage? Especially if the person is alive and wounded, extra care is taken so they aren't hurt more. Then they have forensic investigation, witness statements, and towing the wreckage so your impatient and callous rear can get moving again.

I-71 and 270 at that time of the day is a glorified neckcar race. People going 85 and cutting over to get on 270 at the last second. It certainly won't the last fatality in that area.

RIP to the deceased.

If I'm in critical condition and closing the freeway will somehow save my life, close it.

If I'm already dead and you just want to measure the skid marks so my insurance company knows whom to sue...well, that's not worth the time of 25,000 other motorists, is it? Scrape me up and open the road so the living can get home to their families.

How's that for callous and impatient?

Pretty damn low. But that's typical for the selfish people in today's society.

That only works if the car is registered to the person driving you dumb ***!(had to throw that last part in just like you)

Sometimes boyfriends drive their girlfriend's cars.
Sometimes friends drive other friend's cars.
I know a few months back a friend and I rented a car to go to St. Louis.
Had we had a fatal accident when she was driving no one would have known who the heck she was just by running the plates (car was rented in my name, not her's)

Or gosh forbid they knew who the person was and just were not able to actually get in contact with a family member for a few hours.
Maybe that family member was at work.
If I went out and got in a fatal accident right now they wouldn't be able to contact my next of kin for at least 5 more hours if not longer depending on when he got home from work.

this was 10 HOURS and they STILL hadn't informed them. If a friend was driving contact the registered owner. In the case of a rental, they knew who you were and your friend would have had to have been listed as an additional driver for insurance. I take it from your reasoning that you are a woman.

Get a bigger brain. There could be any number of reasons "police did not inform" the family in your timeframe. You were handed a number of them. Others include that family could NOT have been found, estrangement of family members, investigations have been continuing that precluded informing family members, the names of the victims may have been fairly common (hey...John Smith maybe?), the victims may not have identified any ICE (in case of emergency) contacts in their personal ID (phones, personal belongings, etc.)--police really hate to contact someone about a death if a person isn't really related to them or is only a business contact yanno.

If it's a "friend" who the car was registered to, most authorities CANNOT report the death to them. It typically has to be to a blood relative or a party legally responsible for them in case of death.

I take it by your moniker you like to always think anyone in authority is out to be deliberately stupid or lazy. You must be a guy trying to look for sympathy for being so "liddle."

then LMAO @ idiots who drive without their license on them, or insurance ID, both of which probably has their name and address.

I would tend to agree except that I may not be the only one involved OR affected by the accident. After all, if an investigation regarding skid marks assures my family they will collect insurance or if stopping traffic will ensure that victims who are still alive can be extracted from the wreck safely and transported to medical assistance, then forget the callous and impatient. I HAVE been stuck in these conditions before, and it's not fun. Better late than not at all in my book.

I agree. But if a car flipped, it's likely that its contents (purses, stuff in glove boxes, etc.) could have been ejected from the car. I may be an idiot, but often, don't wear my ID. It's usually in my purse or in the glove box or in the trunk. Also if the car ignited and part of it was burnt, likely that some belonging were burnt as well.

No, my friend was not listed as an additional driver because we didn't plan on her driving at all (we were driving one way and flying home).
And as I said, boyfriends drive girlfriend's cars all the time. The girlfriend of this young man was sitting in a hospital..
If my daughter's boyfriend were to cause an accident in the car she drives (which is registered to my husband), I would have no idea how to contact his parents other than taking an officer to their house (I don't even know the address, just where it is). Considering they spend their summers elsewhere, that would be of absolutely no help.
Yeah, I'm a woman. Which is why I'm able to think about the big picture. Guys tend to come up with this "brilliant" idea and then don't want to see the rest of the picture, just as you are doing.

Oh my ID is in my purse...which would probably go flying across the highway in a rollover accident.

Next stupid closeminded whine for how long it took to contact family.....
