You have my word that no part of the dog was used in my summer sausage.

Better the dog than the wife on my farm, I say.

Does what he's told. Never bellyaches. Never complains. Never sings outta tune during services.

No in-laws, either. Just sell 'em or shoot 'em.

Nothin beats a dog. Certainly not me.

And where do you think that dog ORIGINALLY came from that you saved from the rescue?
I agree that these types of articles are good because they help shed light on the practice. But there are too many stupid people in the world who will go buy a dog from the mills simply because it is cheaper. And these same people likely already have multiple dogs that they really can't afford anyway.
I agree with this except, the part about puppy mill puppies being cheaper. You can actually get a cheaper purebred AKC puppy from a reputable breeder. It' s inconvenient for most people though, they don't like to do the proper research to find a good breeder and not just some backyard wackjob. Also, sometimes you have to drive far away to get the puppy. Or there may be a waiting list.

Most people like the convenience of these pet shop pups, and many times buy on impulse. That is why we see so many dogs turned into the pounds or the breed rescue groups.

I buy only from reputable AKC breeders. My last golden retriever lived to be 15 years old. She was wonderful and we still miss her very much.

As long as religions teach that humans are not animals this insanity will continue.

The sad thing with this false teaching is it prevents those who accept it from any meaningful spiritual growth. If a person denies what they are they are kind of stuck in their illusion till something forces the recognition of the reality of their existence.

Recognizing our family as being all of life enables us to benefit from many valuable spiritual lessons in observing and caring for our brothers and sisters of other species in this amazing universe!

People can be religious and still understand that we are animals. But I agree that most religions try very hard to make people think they are "special". I believe in God but don't see humans as being specially ordained creatures.

I don't get it. These critics of the Amish must have a covert agenda. Of course the animals are for sale/money, we still have capitalism as a means of exchanging value in the market or do you (critics) prefer communism? Are you/they also against the "Dog Whisperer"? Why not?
In many countries, dog is a food, Check your reality.
Obtuse people like yourself really can't comprehend the REAL issue, which is cruel treatment of these animals.

Shoving a fork down their throats to destroy their vocal chords, forcing them to live in cages the size of a shoe box for their entire lives, overbreeding them with no breaks between their "heats", and depriving them of social interaction (dogs ARE "social" animals) is CRUEL - end of story.

You obviously haven't the mental capacity to understand or comprehend more intelligent reasoning, hence you are no better than an animal yourself.

I hope you don't have children, and if you do, I pity them for having such an ignorant, obtuse parent.

Religious savages are everywhere, and they need to be kept in check.

A friend of mine walks dogs for the shelter. She tells me that the shelter routinely receives
60-100 unwanted dogs every day. As it stands, there are already far more dogs than there are homes for them. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD REASON FOR ANYONE TO BE BREEDING MORE DOGS.

Puppy millers need to be put out of business RIGHT NOW!

You're absolutely right about this. Every living being is born with his own precious spark of life and we are all equal. Corrupt humans use 'religion' to promote their own selfish indulgences at the expense of those with less power. Period.

There are many obtuse people out there who think animals don't have the same feelings as humans.

Ironically, if you consider that humans can love something (a child, a spouse, a pet) with all their heart and soul, a pet loves us BACK a 1000 times MORE intensely than we can ever give them in return.

They have the capacity to love more than we do - it's the most intense feeling that they know. Animals don't get angry with us, or hate us, or exploit us - we only do it to them.

Imagine loving someone with all your heart and them not loving you back as much - that is what cruel humans do to animals, and they are too ignorant to comprehend it.

God gave compassion for animals to us for a reason, those who lack it, are less than human. They blaspheme God's creation - I'm appalled at the Amish for their ignorance and stupidity.

Just what kind of people are these???? Sick, sick, Sick. Why does the law let these low life get away with this. I would love for these so called people to be locked in a small cage all their lives and live this cruel sad life that they inflict on these poor sweet animals. I am disgusted with the Amish people for their involvement in this terrible trade. We must stop this. Thank God for the protesters and for informing everyone that this is going on.

They need to put a stop to these auctions, because its a horrible way to sell puppies! Most of these puppies are sick or have major issues of one kind or another. If the puppy mills, back yard breeders etc, were more closely regulated, and also made to follow humane rules this would take care of many of these people who do it out of pure greed. I used to respect the Amish for their simple ways, but I found out they also mistreat their horses. Despite their religious beliefs they do not treat any of Gods creatures in a humane manner. I would never sell my horse to the Amish or a dog for that matter.

I've been involved with many Amish for years and they are often looking for easy ways to make more money. That's not necessarily bad and many other people do the same thing, but these dog breeding businesses are shameful. Yes, many of them also mistreat their horses and other livestock but the majority of Amish don't. And some have dog breeding businesses that are legit and they only have one litter every year or two. So, we can't generalize about all the Amish. The answer is to not buy puppy mill puppies - that simple. Without anyone to sell them to and no income, they'll quickly find some other cash stream.

Why do they need to abuse animals to make money? Perhaps they need to rethink their culture! The Amish are not the only ones who do this, but theyre some of the worst. They keep the dogs in deplorable conditions, do not have any vet care, and if one gets sick it dies or is killed. They do not breed to better the breed, and they inbreed or whatever they need to do to get the most puppies for resale. NO ONE should be breeding dogs in deplorable conditions to make money! I work in rescue, and Ive seen way too many results of these back yard puppy mill breeders. With more people giving up pets than ever doesnt common sense tell them to stop? Lets try to find homes for those that are already here, and then maybe think about breeding more. Also, female dogs deserve more than just being used to breed litter after litter after litter to then be dumped or killed when theyre no long able to produce.
