Trends inform me to avoid the east and south sides.
These areas are not what they used to be.
There's no question that the areas you mentioned are the best areas in town. My only point is that the areas I mentioned also aren't bad, depending on your budget. The Jefferson Twp. portion of the Gahanna school district in some places is every bit as nice as New Albany but in a country setting. It is not as dense.

If your pockets aren't as deep, and especially if you have ties to the east side, there is no shame in Gahanna/Jefferson and Pickerington ... or even Reynoldsburg.

Anything else south of I-70 I agree with you on.

I read somewhere where in most cities blacks tend to live on the east side. I don't know if that's true or not, but I do know the whitest part of the Columbus area is West of Ohio 315.

I believe it is too, maybe even add a chunk of Northern territory also.

I'll agree, but taking that everybody in a certain neighborhood don't work right next to their job, I'd like an area that has a lot of activity places near by, but secluded enough to have some backyard privacy.
I wouldn't mind areas with lakes, sporting fields and a nice park.
I have friends that live all over nice areas, in which, it is a hard decision to make at the age we are now.
Heck, you might even know one of my buddies. He runs a kids hockey league, plays himself and travels all over for games.(Big Canada fan). Of course...its better to stay leave anymore personal info out.

South sides tend to be bad news as well. One reason I've heard is that the white native majorities in cities drew a line against blacks coming up from the South. That certainly seems to apply in Chicago, Boston and DC (southeast).

I agree, if you live in Westerville or New Albany and work out that way, it's fine. That said, I wouldn't want to break down on 670 heading home at 2:00 AM after an evening downtown.
There's a good chance I've run into your friend at one of the Chillers or the Ice Haus.

In Boston, the Brahmins who controled the city had a pecking order. The blacks got the slums that the Irish and Jews raised themselves out of by WWII.

Unless you're a rich retiree, doctor or overpaid lawyer, that's what them houses are designed for. Bottom line... Money pits.

So were vacation homes. Try renting out that condo in Panama City Beach you paid $400k for in 2005. Now it's worth $150k and you're lucky to rent it out 100 nights a year at discount prices unless it's a holiday week.

Dublin is awesome.
Upper Arlington is too close to OSU and the football traffic and straggling of ghetto rats who prey on students tend to venture that way.
Powell is very nice as well.

I personally like living more rural so sunbury or Pickerington would probably be my picks.

I have family in grove city though and I've always liked it there when I've visited them.

It really depends on what you can afford housing wise and where your commute will take you in Columbus.

Hey I don't need you to praise my town, the stat speaks for itself. UA is best plain and simple.

There are lots of Columbus kids enrolled in Gahanna school system, on the west of Johnstown Rd, Mifflin township and some of them are as hood rats as the Columbus City Schools kids.

Still better than Columbus schools nonetheless but if I'm paying the same tax bracket as in Worthington and UA I would look into those first.

Same issue has damaged Westerville Schools.
Olentangy, while excellent, has become a behemoth.

Sadly, we all will have to ride it out.
On the upside, now is a great time to buy a vacation home.

Put the "Location, Location, Location" theory aside and pay close attention to the actual houses expense. I've seen people put so much money in unforeseen snags that could've been caught if they took the time a looked at the houses structure. Drywall hides a lot, but look at the quality of the product they used to sell this heap.
-If a salesman harped about some new junk windows in his sales pitch...RUN.

-If you can't do laundry, shower and take a shit at the same time your wife better be doing dishes... RUN. And, run from her too. LOL
Anyhow, Good Luck buying a house and keeping it without welfare moving close by.
