Rod Houpe thinks the grievance is moot? Seriously? I couldn't log on to my computer at all yesterday and it ruined my lesson plans. I can't count on the computers to work effectively on any given day in my classroom. If this district were a business, poorly functioning IT technology would not be tolerated. If the district were a buisiness, Mr. Houpe would have either fixed the problem or he would be searching for another job. I'm tired of waiting for the former; it's time for the latter.

Oh, and that outage that happened while problems were fixed? It affected my school and 38 others. Here's the email we got below. Of course, we couldn't look at it to know that we were affected because our computers didn't work.

"Due to connection issues experienced with the Hudson Data Center this morning, emergency maintenance will be performed this afternoon , October 18, 2010, from 4:00 PM-10:00 PM/EST. Only the sites listed below are affected.

(List of 39 schools)

Users at the following sites will not be able to connect to the CCS network until after 10:00 PM tonight. System slowness can be expected tomorrow morning (Tuesday, October 19, 2010)."

I can't wait for system slowness!

the new system took away the use of most of the assistive technology for special ed students. those that work took over a month and a half to get the "hurt" desk to come out and set up on my computer. Go it is frustrating to read that Dublin schools are getting iPads and we can't even get working dell desktops. We wonder why we aren't on even playing ground?!?

As a retired CCS teacher it's great to see the union finally takes a stand on this issue. From the day of the $30 million corrupt Dell contract several superintendents back, as technology advanced each year, CCS would take giant steps backward each year! Parents should be outraged. You need me because this does not work. They have created a middle management tier that keep their jobs by making need. An example, I worked in one of the multiple million dollar rebuilt schools. A massive WI FI system was installed, four years later it has never worked! This middle management tier is busy telling teachers what they have to use, rather that listen to what they want or need.

The ignorance and arrogance is so deep the only way to fix the problem is to clean house and start over.

It sounds like the "performance" clause of the contract should be used against the supplier.
When the equipment is sold to a buyer, it is supposed to be materially useful for the purpose for which is to be used.
Only a fool would take delivery on a system that did not work satisfactiorily and seamlessly.
It looks like the union has the school board dead to rights here.
Time is too valuable to waste.
As a taxpayer, I think we need to insist on excellent performance or else our money back.

Who got the kickbacks for this. Now the computer. Last time in was the timekeeping software. What did that cost. Over a million dollars I believe.

Who are making the decisions. Does anyone do their job. I think it is time to do in the school system what the taxpayer are doing in the government.

Throw all the bums out.

This is like working with the gang who can't shoot straight.

Every day seems to bring on more problems. Who caused this problem anyway?

Time for a change in the administration at CCS.

sounds like more wasted money from the CPS. The more you educate them the dumber they get.

Hey teachers, try this. Just quit coming up with excuses and just teach. There is nothing wrong with using a blackboard/whiteboard, pencil. and paper.

Yes, it's a waste of money, but so are the unions.

Eff what the unions say. They're just organized to bellyache so as to make excuses for not performing their jobs and making demands for more money and fatter bennies. Now if they're complaining about defective bullhorns and mis-spellings on the protest signs that are printed up then I may give them a listen. But as it stands now I'd take dysentary over a union pronouncement.

Sounds like the teachers are mad because they cant access their facebook, gmail and twitter accounts when they are supposed to be teaching.
Good thing they have a union contract to prevent these atocities from happening.

Classic government workers. Blowing our money like mad hatters. They will spend millions and only make a bigger mess. The solution is to fire administrators, disolve the union and free the sutdents from this inpet cesspool of waste called columbus public schools.

Who the idiot in CPS that wake up and say, "What stupid thing can I do today that make our school system laughing stock of country?".

Columbus Public Schools is the most bass-ackward excuse for education Chan ever see.

This is an issue when ever anyone is exposed to any level of change. You work through and try to make it better.

You really show your value as an employee when you fight the change and throw your hands up.

Teachers unions and going to be the death of our schools.

One teacher said, "It takes half my lunch break and all of my afternoon break to set the computers up for the students." Well then that is what you do. Idiots.

Maybe they can have one of their students help them... After all, the only thing I learned in school was that I was smarter than most of my teachers.

Could it be that the technology is over the heads of those in charge at CCS? The problems at CCS seem to span the gambit of the entire opeartion. The problem may be the very structure and leadership of the entire school system, board, superintendent, inept staff hired by same.

I this case, of the people by the people may not be working. CCS is a candidate for being taken over the the State board of Education( couldn't do worse!)

Interesting that Mr. Houpe acknowledges that there have been problems in the first 10 days of school. What about all the problems since January of 2009 when he foisted this disaster on us? When will they be resolved? If this were a business environment he would have been fired a year ago.
