If the school mascot is a Devil is that breaking the first amendment of the constitution?

Very possibly. If there is a biblical reference, the ACLU will soon be in there acting like the complete idiots they are.

I'm not sure if the exact word "devil" is in the Old or New Testament.

Most public school mascot whining is over alleged Native American mascots.

ACLU hates that as well.

You are right of course. I hesitated on my reply, because the references I remember are to "Sayan".

I agree with your description of the behaviour of the ACLU but you shouldn't count on their taking any action regarding this. They are only interested in oppressing the rights of Christians, and the use of the devil's image doesn't fit that.

Yes, for Satan is a relgious symbol, but I'd bet the ACLU will let this violation go unnoticed. It's okay by them to have any symbol from any religion except one promoting Christianity. Now if some school put up a Muslim symbol, I feel sure the ACLU will protect a Muslim's right to do that.

"Devil" is used in both the OT and NT of the KJV.
It refers to both foreign gods and the spirit we call Satan.
Naturally, because that devil, Satan, is the father of all false religion.

No, because it has been so diluted by its various uses that it is more or less a secular symbol. Plus, the concept of the Devil is not specific to any one relgion, but is common to many. It is, in sense, a much more secular mythological symbol that a religious one.

Also, it is not intended to convey a religious message.

It's a cartoon Devil. A cartoon Angel would also be acceptable, as would a Djinn, Efreet, or any other supernatural creature that may have, at some point, had religious significance but its use has diluted any actual religious message.

Oh, and don't listen to Logan. He is quite confused about how the law works in this area...and has his facts completely wrong.

Shh...according to his name, he wants one of the Duke family to run for president. If they win, they'll turn the university over to the state.

It seems Strel is a troll following me around on Topix. Apparently I offended him so he, obviously an immature, school child who canít bear to be corrected, is conducting a vendetta against me. Mommie must have always given into his demands so he becomes agitated when others donít do likewise.

Your snide comment "Oh, and don't listen to Logan. He is quite confused about how the law works in this area...and has his facts completely wrong." displays for all the other posters to see the kind of person you are. A suggestion: see a counselor to determine what kind of personality disorder afflicts you and see a physician for removal of that burr on which you are sitting.

I take it you're addressing me? Since you lack knowledge about what has gone on with that poster, causing my reaction to being followed to this thread, I ask you the question you asked me.

So those who worship the devil are not a religious group?
