they need to track down who the people were that lived at that farm, and shoot them and leave them to suffer and starve.

A) It's "accepting donations" not "excepting" - anyway, tragic -- people can be so cruel -

It is sad to see such a beautiful animal put through this kind of treatment. I can only assume that the owner shot the animal in an attempt to put it out of misery. It is unfortunate the story didn't go on to explain that this kind of situation has become common place since congress outlawed horse slaughter in this country. A law that well meaning but misguided goverment has back fired and contributed to a problem of abuse to the very animals it was intended to protect. We need to realize that horses are livestock and not pets and require a significant investment annually for care.

I know that horses were meant to be used as workers, but tractors and all the updated farm equipment we have today, most people dont use them to work anymore. They are now used for hobbies and enjoyment and they live a good life if they have owners who really care. They are beautiful and powerful creatures, that deserve the same respect as any living thing on this earth. I know that this horse would not be suffering if there were still slaughter houses, but who deserves that? Let me take you to the slaughter house because your vision isnt as good as it used to be, or because you have high blood pressure. That is just an easy out for cowards (that I feel dont deserve to live either, if your not will to use what God gave you and fight what comes with it). Complaining about not being allowed to slaughter and TRYING to have compassion in the same paragraph, sours my stomach and give me no respect for people like you. Quit being lazy and utilize the tools life provides.

And one other thing!!! You people that get on here and comment on the grammer and spelling..........your sad too if that is all you can think about in this poor horses situation.
May God bless this horse and the people that are doing what they can to help it survive.

People who abuse animals are likely to abuse people. They just don't respect life. If you have a FaceBook or Twitter account, please share this story and the link to the Harding Humane Society page so that those who wish to contribute to Sophie's medical bills can. I've met some fantastic animal lovers and rescuers on both these social networks and I'm always getting stories like these. Good folks share things so that others can help. Please share this. Thanks!

the people who did this to the horse should be found and prosecuted if it was done maliciously(sp). but, with all the suffering this horse has had to endure, it should be put down. why do we, as a society, feel the need to try and save every animal that has been injured or becomes sick? i wish them luck, but the horse probably wont survive.

This story does not surprise me really. We have young people microwaving their babies and others just killing people just to be killing. We are such a blessed country..why do we abuse children, and animals instead of giving them away or letting others who want babies or animals adopt them? Oh that would be too easy to do. I hope whom ever did this to this animal are found and prosecuted !!!

Every living creature has a right to live, man or animal, if they are willing to fight to do so. She is and so are we to help her. With prayers and God's help we will get her through this and she will make someone a wonderful horse. Hopefully we will be able to find the person that did this to her. If not, it will work on their mind. I know it would mine. Thank you for your prayers and concern. Will keep you informed on her progress.

I wish I were wealthy; not for me or my own selfish needs but, for helping other people as well as animals. i want to cry as I look at her eyes. She obviously has a lot to give. She's in so much pain.:(

This person or persons should be found that did this to this horse.THEY should be made to fit the bill and pay for her keep till a home is found for her.Yes, money is tight for every one right now but they didnt have to treat this horse this way. They could have called the humane society and said they could no longer care for her and to come and get her. There where other ways they could have handled this instead of doing this.I jest wonder what else they have done?
