Lots better odds than the lottery. Kill a bicyclist out of negligence...the dead bicyclist's family wins.

Again...how, if the driver is an uninsured illegal? Or an uninsured unemployable citizen?

I said the odds are better than the lottery that the dead guy's family wins.

Why is that so difficult for you to understand?

You also said this:

"Kill a bicyclist out of negligence...the dead bicyclist's family wins."

That's a statement that seems to carry a sense of certainty.

You really need to own your entire post, not just one sentence.

always the exceptions with you, huh Paco?

Never ever can you be wrong.

How about this? The perp hits the lottery, works, or inherits? Or the dead guy had a policy of his own?

Like I said, odds are in favor of the dead guy's family gettin a payout.

But George makes a great point that also ties in to mine.

Uninsured? Minimal insurance? The law says you have to have insurance just like it says you have to share the road.

What good does the law do you if someone barrels into you or has a $25,000 policy?

The law means NOTHING. Your personal viligance is what counts.

End of lesson.

This whole bike thing is a bit disheartening to me.
As an avid biker, I simply can't understand the mentality of people that because there's a law on the books that say bikes can use the road, it is advisable. As if just because there is a law on the books, you are guaranteed safety.
I think somewhere in this phenomenon are some hidden truths buried about the different between people like me who take responsibility for themselves, and the masses who wait on others to take care of them.
It really is scary that people cannot or will not take precautions to protect against 4,000 pounds of fast moving metal mowing them down just because there is a law on the books and the nanny state is there to protect them. Unbelievable.
Exactly, Bob.
