Jan 16, 2013 Full story: NBC4i.com 13

Standing at the end of a long conference table covered with guns Tuesday, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman held a semi-automatic rifle, the same model used in the school shooting in Newtown Conn.

Well of course the co-stain supports the ban. Just like he supports nurturing obama's parasites. Just like he supports public defecation. Just like he supports black on black gang killing. Just like he supports black genocide aka abortion. These are all articles of faith with these cullids.

Well...I expect gun crime to cease in NY and all other jurisdictions in which gun bans are, or will be, passed.

Chicago is the prime example of a gun-ban safe haven...correct?

Stalin was able to get people he accused of opposing the state to confess and beg for their execution, the jews running the American media apparently have done the same thing on a grand scale with the American population, These people hate you and your family and everything you stand for and that is why they want to disarm you and that is the only reason they want to disarm you. see you tube the rise of political correctness or how nations die.

Older posters will remember the hysteria in the 70's over the so called Saturday Night Specials. Liberals had these small cheap guns banned so that the criminal element switched to the 9mm and semi-automatic rifles that the police are facing today.

Coleman's comments are ironic since the "Saturday Night Special" hysteria of the 70's gave rise to the current weapons.

Liberalism always ends in a Dictatorship after the pillars of culture (family / morality) are removed by liberals themselves.

Columbus police confiscated 2,667 guns in 2012 including 138 assault style rifles, shotguns and handguns. Police Chief Kim Jacobs says the high capacity magazines are particularly troubling.

Confiscated from whom?

Confiscated from Coleman and Obama supporters, not from law abiding citizens.

Yes, because as a suburbanite working inside Columbus city limits, I'm paying his 2.5% income tax while having no vote and no representation.

I don't seem to see many reports about assault rifles being used in crimes in Columbus. I see lots of reports of head guns being used.
So is mayor Coleman going to make any of his security team stop carrying high cap mags over 7 rounds and to stop carrying any semi auto rifle? Or is he going to be like the rest of the hypocrites and keep such things for his security while denying citizens the same right? I think I already know the answer.
If Coleman wants to know what assault rifle violence is like then maybe he should talk to one of his refugees from Somalia he invites to Columbus. They will tell him they columbus is a walk in the park compared to Mogadishu.

And again ... conservative/libertarian types (the core of the Reagan Revolution) claim they don't want big government and don't like edicts passed down from above. Yet they have no problem passing those edicts down when they want something.

Just because owning guns may make sense in Athens, doesn't mean they make sense in Columbus ... I think they do, by the way, but the point is that each community should be able to decide what standards are going to apply on their own. THAT is the essence of the way American democracy is supposed to work.

Which is fine because it fits states rights. The problem is most laws are not put on a ballot and usually rushed through by lawmakers in a panic (see the recent New York ban) and things are not properly thought out. It's fine to make a local law, but not one that violates federal law or the constitution. The Supreme Court will probably strike down the New York State law just enacted.

I mean look at the issues we are having in states that have legalized marijuana while it is still illegal in federal law.

Very sticky situation.

Coleman needs to worry less about the style of gun or the capacity of the magazine. Focus on the individual with the gun. He would do a whole lot more for the safety of the community if he figured out a way to keep guns out of the hands of young, black males.
