<quoted text> Yet, you'll hear EVERY Republican and Ron Paul types complain about the puplic food stamp program ( welfare was reformed in 1996) and say nothing about the $40 billion in giveaways to people who are already millionaires. That, is my beef! Stop bullying the destitute and be fair in the finger pointing.
Those I know complain less about the programs themselves, and more about abusers of those programs.

Sorry to say, but legislation has in the past been introduced to repeal it in the past. See my post 1755.

I don't want protected economically. I want protected from being harmed or my rights violated. Government's only job IMO.

so you agree that even FDR's New Deal legistlation infringed on other peoples rights too then which it did to some just like what the Socialist Lincoln & Republicans did & where advocating which brought on the the US Civil War because the southern states felt that their rights were being harmed & violated and their way of life by the Changed being forced by Washington DC.

Yes my 2nd amendment right does interest me. Just like I'm sure your 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights interest you.
My paranoia of Obama is well founded. He comes from one of the most anti 2nd amendment cities in this country. He is surrounded by several anti gun hypocrites who exercise their 2nd amendment rights, but wish to remove mine. Lots to be afraid of. Some of us don't just bury our heads in the sand and hope the government does what is best for us.
How about you define what exactly you understand your Second Amendment rights to be?

What? I have no idea what you are trying to say.
The topic was the need to have an armed populace to preserve First Amendment rights. How the hell that lead you conflicts with other nations and Native American genocide is beyond me.
It's about gun control. A discussion mainly brought on by the tragic events in Newtown. Either you or Indy brought up the civil war.

By example of the native Americans, I'm pointing out that our government and military, at it's command, has not always been benevolent in it's use of weapons or it's treatment of children.

If the native Americans had been as well armed and trained as the 'foreign invaders', which we were, the west might not have been 'tamed' quite so quickly.

It is what it was.

The Native Americans had guns.

It is not a legtimate argument to compare an invading force with a government violently turning on its own citizens.

How about you define what you think would fix the gun violence. Honestly what do you think should be done and how do you think it will help?

I believe my 2nd amendment rights give me the rights to own an assault weapon if I wish. Personally I think anyone without a criminal background should be allowed to own a fully automatic weapon if they so desire. I don't feel the government should dictate what gun I cannot and can own if I have not violated any laws.

Background checks at gun shows? Fine I'm fine with that.

Remove the ability of citizens to sell firearms to other citizens without paperwork? Fine. I had an FFL before and could easily get one again. If they did this it will only increase money for the gun shop owners doing transfers at $30-75 a pop.

Waiting period? Fine with that to. I can wait 3 days for my assault weapon or a new handgun if I want one.

I'm not fine with limiting magazine size though. What purpose does it serve? A typical person could shoot a handgun with a single stack magazine very fast just as a person with a double stack mag can. If a gun fires 1 round it could kill someone in the hands of someone bent on harming someone.

I know how the liberal mind works. I worked in college level academia. Give an inch and a yard will be taken. It starts with an assault weapons ban, then magazine limits, then all semi autos, then all pistols. Then all rifles. Then all guns. This scenario has played out in Great Britain. It's gun control by piecemeal. Sorry not happening.

I'm more afraid of the people who have no responsibility and no desire to earn anything in life. Whenever things go south for them and it comes to a survival situation they would slit their neighbors throat for a scrap of food.

I hope you are never in a survival situation and get to see this firsthand, but usually those who prepare the least become very ugly and violent when they want something to sustain life.
