The Franklin County commissioners voted this morning to raise the county’s sales tax rate by half a cent per dollar starting next year. The commissioners have said that the increased tax, which is expected to raise about $100 million a year, is needed to shore up the county’s budget, pay for major building projects and to create an economic development fund.

Half of the tax, a quarter cent per dollar, would fall off the books at the end of 2018 after it helped purchase a new $150 million jail and $50 million morgue, among other capital improvement projects.

Sure it will...just in time for the quarter percent increase for COTA, ADAMH or whichever union controlled entity's turn it is.

Franklin County, populated largely by economic refugees from NE Ohio now has the second-highest property tax in the state.

Cuyahoga County has had the highest sales tax in the state for many years.

You can see how well that worked out.

People don't seem to get that when Dumbocrats are in charge, taxes go up. Always.

I was toying with the idea of buying a new car. Also toying with the idea of addressing it to a building my uncle owns in Licking County to save on sales tax.

Not worth the effort since the taxes are pretty high everywhere.

Thank God for Amazon.

Fully 15% of the cars owned by Massachusetts residents were purchased and registered in New Hampshire (no sales tax) until the late '80s. Then the crackdown came, complete with billboards and TV spots offering rewards to those willing to turn in their neighbors and coworkers.
That's how leftist scum rolls.
