Women's Festivals and the law...

Isn't it against the law to discriminate against someone based on gender? How can a women's festival exclude men and remain legal? I am specifically speaking of The Ohio Lesbian Festival which will take place again this weekend. As a lesbian, I am FOR the idea of a lesbian festival, but as a friend to many straight/gay men, I am against my friends being told they can't attend. Does anyone know what the law says about this sort of exclusion?

Do you LGBTQIABCDEFs sit around 24/7 dreaming of the legal actions you might take in the event some private citizen or group of private citizens does not affirm and welcome you?

Seeing as you're the gay dude, you should be most offended at your dyke systers.

Hell, no.
You're set to eat your own in this instance.
Not that it's a new concept for any of you.

The only reason a real man would want to go would be if he were selling breath mints. Well, ok...or sensible shoes.
Any word if Hillary and Huma will be there?

I expected an open, intelligent discussion about the legalities of excluding people based on gender. Instead, I get carpet munching jokes and insults. Really? Someone actually address the topic/question please? Or is that too much to ask of this forum?

I am not looking to take legal action! I can't believe they are allowed in any legal sense to exclude men at a public event. Why do you feel it necessary to insult me? I do not need your affirmation or welcome. I simply wanted to know if this was legal to do! Isn't it unconstitutional to discriminate based on gender?

It appears the festival is put on by a non-profit organization which has the right to exclude at will.

Don't like it? Don't go.

I assume you don't watch the NFL either.

No, it is not illegal. And I for one don't buy your faux indignation that someone somewhere might be offended if they - god forbid - are asked to stay home so that a group of like minded people mind congregate.

For the love of god - I, as a non-Catholic am not allowed to take communion at a catholic church. So what. Life is short - don't sweat the small stuff and be a common place insufferable liberal.
